I really liked this Best Western because of the mother & son team who own and operate it. You could see that they actually cared about ensuring that their guests were comfortable, felt safe, and having a good time at their hotel and in their town. They kept a watchful eye on people coming and going, which I really appreciated as a woman traveling on her own. They were well organized and I would see Stan (one of the owners) and/or his beautiful mother thoughtfully placing out the petite dejeuner (breakfast) for all the guests, or checking in or out the next lodger, or just working. They were always there for you.
Stan was so kind and friendly and gave excellent recommendations on restaurants and interesting excursions in Quimper, if you asked. I also enjoyed finding my own way around and stumbling upon a cute shop, museum, restaurant or park bench for reading and having a baguette, some cheese and fruit. Very relaxing, very French and no stress.
This hotel is conveniently located, only about a 15 minute walk from the train station and about a 7 minute walk to the town square with the beautiful St. Corentin cathedral, shops, restaurants and boulangeries (bakeries).
Would definitely have the breakfast included if staying here not only for convenience, but because the breakfast was tasty and they had organic options and a good variety. Something for every tastebud.
Best Westerns are tidy and convenient. You’re not expecting the Four Seasons Hotel, of course, but you’re not paying for the Four Seasons. I saw a few comments on here about the area being a little rough. I found it was just fine and I slept with my windows open on the 2nd floor, all three nights that I stayed here. There are a few empty storefronts on this little side street, but that’s in every town all over the world.
Definitely recommend this hotel for its down home feel, kind and friendly owners, clean simple rooms, good breakfast and convenient location. All the best to them and thanks...
Read moreThe big advantage of this hotel is its location: it’s not looking attractive from the outside upon arrival, but it’s less than a five minute walk to the cathedral square. ||We had a Queen deluxe room on the second floor: a fairly large room with a bathroom - which can use some revamping - and a separate toilet (always handy).||We were happy to find out that the room was located at the back-side of the hotel as we heard hotel guests complaining about their room being located above the pub at the street side which kept them awake until late at night. Our room had airco (though not optimally functioning, but just OK to cope with the 30° temperature outside). ||Breakfast was OK and hotel staff very welcoming and attentive. A bit weird though for a four star hotel that you have to explicitly request to have your room done on a daily basis. ||I reserved a parking space in the secured, covered parking of the hotel, but eventually refrained from using it as I found the entrance gate very, very small for a big car. I decided to use the hotel’s parking lot next to the hotel instead, which works on a first come first served basis (also payable). ||Overall, we were quite happy...
Read moreHotel in a very good location, 5 mn from the cathedral. Parking available. I reserved a "Luxe & Detente" room, with a bath. The room at the back of the building was quiet and had air conditioning, needed during the heatwave. Room quite dark and decoration a bit dated. The reception areas downstairs are really nice. |I had a reservation for 8 days. When I arrived during the heatwave there was no water in the room and the fridge was switched off. There was a kettle but the teabags were never replaced during my stay, so I bought my own. |Also I didn't mind the bed not being made, but I needed a change of towels, but I had to ask to get clean ones. So most of the time I didn't get them. The hotel is supposed to be four stars. The bathroom was not cleaned once during my stay. I think the hotel doesn't have enough chambermaids. |I am glad I only had breakfast on the last day of my stay. I wanted an English Breakfast and the scrambled eggs were a bit dried up, the baked beans were sour... On the positive side, the staff were professional and attentive. This hotel is probably good for a one or two nights...
