BB Fleurie — Hotel in Saint-Amand-Montrond

Firstly, to avoid any confusion, this is a new B an B opened by the same owners, who have now bought this lovely old property, having previously traded in the same town in another house.||||Rens, the Dutch, English speaking, owner and his wife José have done a wonderful job of restoring this lovely old building, with quirky staircase in a turret. The room we stayed in, Amsterdam, was newly fitted with everything you could need, in an eclectic style. The huge bed was supremely comfortable, there was a silent, remote controlled ceiling fan for hot nights, unusual but perfectly functioning bedside tables and lights, TV, bottled water, etc. The large shower room had a great shower and more stylish fittings.||||We decided to take advantage of the opportunity of an evening meal cooked by our host, for 22.50 Euro a head. The food was served outdoors on the terrace on a hot evening. Our three courses, cooked to order, with choice of main course, was perfect, with attention given to guests' likes and dislikes. Franz, our host was very welcoming and a really nice chap.||||There are 2 apartments here. The 1st one has a large roof terrace but is just one room with a shower and toilet partitioned off and a wash basin in the room.||||The 2nd apartment is huge with a large bedroom and a super comfy bed, a separate toilet and a fairly basic bathroom with a shower over the bath. It was spoteleesy clean but furnished eclectically - none of it matched and it was all rather cheap.||||Franz told us that they don't own the property so have no idea how much influence they have over the decor and furnishings. They are buying a property locally that they plan to turn into a luxurious B&B.||||My hot tip is to accept their invitation to a home cooked dinner. Franz is a professional chef and we had a really delicious meal. I recently stayed at this B&B for three nights and really pleased with the choice. The owner is very friendly and speaks excellent English which is useful when a tourist in France. ||He was also very accommodating in that I had an early 6am start on both Saturday and Sunday and he still got up to prepare an excellent and filling fresh breakfast each morning. The room has been furnished to a high standard and larger than I expected with a very comfortable bed. The local town was easily within walking distance and there were a nice selection of restaurants to eat at each evening. If I am back in the area then I would certainly stay again.
