Reve de St. Barth — Hotel in Saint Barthélemy

I tagged along with some friends who had already booked this place. While the property is beautiful and the staff is very kind, it is not what I would have chosen if I had been planning. Its hard to go wrong in St Barth though! ||||Pros: Gabriel (the owner I believe) is friendly and helpful and really tried to make our stay wonderful. The houses are kept very well, clean. It is quiet at night. Everything is very comfortable and the access to a kitchen, grill, and amenities like Netflix was nice. The housekeeping staff were so sweet to us and provided breakfast daily after our electricity kept going out. ||||Cons: The property is built into a hill and does not have direct beach access, which I would have preferred. Flamands is about a 2 minute drive, and nothing is more than 10 minutes away, but as cabs are hard to come by you will need a rental car. Having to drive everywhere; the beach, restaurants, shopping, etc was a bit of a downer, especially since the roads at night are so dark and scary. Our unit was a 2/1.5 and for four people to share one shower (no bathtub) that was a pain, which is more the fault of the person who booked than the property, but wanted to make a note for those considering this place. There are also none of the normal hotel amenities like a concierge or bellman. You can book spa services and food in your unit, but that has to be be done well in advance. ||||Overall, for my purposes I would rather stay somewhere with direct beach access and within walking distance to at least a few shops and restaurants, and my preference is to stay in hotels with on-site concierge, spa, and restaurants. But if those aren't your priorities this is a beautiful place to stay to relax and have some of the comforts of home that you might lack in...

Great option on the island. We recently stayed here for two nights. We got in late, but the staff was nice enough to leave a key and note for us on the lobby desk. We stayed in the Grenada room. It was incredibly spacious!||The apartment was made up of two floors. We had a full kitchen, with laundry on the first floor, with a half bathroom, and living room area. Upstairs, we had two bedrooms, and a second full, large, bathroom. There was a large balcony with lounge chairs off the bedroom, and a nice terrace on the ground floor with a full table and chairs -- that overlooked the ocean in the distance. The kitchen was stocked with two large waters, and plates, glasses, dishwasher detergent, etc. ||Everything was very clean, minus the upstairs bathroom. It had some stains and stickiness on the seat of the toilet that we had to clean off ourselves. There was a cleaning service each day, which was a nice offer, in an apartment type hotel. ||Plenty of open parking spaces right outside our door for our rental car, so we never needed to worry about that. The drive is about 10 minutes to the airport. The location of the unit is also a quick walk to a fantastic bakery nearby, only about a five minute walk up the hill. ||If in the area, we would definitely stay here again.
