Savoy Hotel — Hotel in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne

We booked using Booking.com… taxes all included & were then charged taxes on leaving, the young lady saying oh, it’s only 1.2 € - not the point!|They are obviously in a state of transition / seemingly modernising rooms which is great. Attentive contact prior to our arrival & then it all started to fall apart! We had booked table to eat there. We had no table waiting for us! The young lady (who was frantically running round!) showed us to a larger table no doubt from embarrassment. Then the wait began, the turmoil… watching the lass run round as others sought tables…|I said to my partner, we should go elsewhere and eat - even a takeaway! You know when you get these feelings you should go with them! But, sadly the young lady just arrived suddenly at our table! Quelle Dommage. |The Menu offered little by way of choice & I was left with little options other than steak! It’s never good in France - unless you know a good place to have it… and well…|But, I did express concern about a possible wait. She assured us we would have food ‘tout suite’… OK.|The wine arrived and I asked for bread for comfort… we waited! I reminded the poor lass. Then the steaks arrived with the bread! |Steaks & plate was passable. Did we want a desert? Same question was asked! How long a wait? I requested the Creme Brûlée : always predictable my partner says! We were reassured theirs was a house speciality. You know what’s coming next? Merde I said to my partner - who unfortunately knew what I had said. I repeated it to the staff. |The chef then came out to apologise ! The Dep chef had not seemingly followed the instructions on the packet?? Water added...

This hotel was a real find and fantastic for my other half who was cycling some of the famous Cols of the Alps. So many of the routes can be accessed from here: Telegraph/Galibier/Croix de Fer etc... I could go on. The hotelier is very welcoming and even provided us with a map of the many and varied mountain routes my husband could access with his bike. For our two day stop we stayed in a large top floor room, overlooking the mountains, that was very modern, clean and comfortable with a boutique style shower room. Although in the centre of town, it's very quiet at night and we had no qualms about leaving our car in the street outside the hotel.If you are cycling and want to put your bike somewhere safe, the hotelier has a secure garage for that purpose.The hotel is only a 2 star hotel, but in my experience travelling around France this summer it rates better than some of the 3 star hotels I have stayed in.|| The food in the restaurant is hearty. If you decide to go for any of the Savoyard fare, you'll find these choices are complete meals in themselves. However, they do have a good range of other foods available, nothing too fancy but all the produce is fresh and of good quality. The breakfasts are more traditional: bread and pastries, coffee etc... but plenty to eat to keep you going. Another bonus is the free unlimited WiFi at the hotel.|| I imagine this hotel will be very popular next summer as Le Tour de France is paying a visit to the area, but it also offers winter skiing packages, if cycling is...

Hormis les plats régionaux savoyards proposés , on vous présente une carte avec des viandes matureées grillées, tartare de bœuf, poissons , etc.. le tout bien soigné et des assiettes bien présentées. On retiendra aussi, les frites fraîches faites maison. Les viandes sont de très bonne qualité , les cuissons réussies. Le service est à la hauteur et les serveurs très sympas et serviables.
