I arrived on the 28th december after a long flight from Australia and a terrible train trip from Frankfurt. What should have taken a few hours took most of the day as DB Railways were having real problems with the weather disrupting their services. I arrived at Arnstadt Station and just a few metres across the road was the Hotel Krone , its lights in te windows of the dining room looked ever so welcoming. I was greated at the reception like a long lost friend. My room was exellent , but dont expect five star but it had evering thing including wirless access. The food in that evening was greatbeatiful steak amd local wine. breakfast was enormous.I have stayed there on a number of occasions and reckon it is one of the best small hotels in Germany. The town is famous for JS Bach and som beautiful buildings and is near a great number of special cities in the area such as Erfurt, Weimar Gotha, gera ad Leipzig. All are in reach in an hour or so. Rotary meets there, as does Lions and in collection of wine bottles above the bar there is a can of Fosters VB. Australians are very welcome...
Read moreUsed Hotel Krone am Bahnhof for a one night stayover whilst driving past Arnstadt but the hotel is also at a great location opposite the railway station if you visit by train.||||The hotel staff is very friendly, making you feel right at home there. During dinner in their restaurant (which was a good dinner from a varied menu), the staff took time to chat with the guests, if they so wanted.||||Rooms are equipped with full sun blockers and the beds are comfortable, providing a good nights sleep.||||I could only wish that the internet connection (WiFi) was a little bit more stable. Stayed in a corner room on the second floor and although I had connectivity, it was only right next to my door, with my laptop and then if I was lucky, in the beds too. The connection was also somewhat unreliable.||||Breakfast in the morning is served in the hotel restaurant and you have the choice between all the common breakfast elements, including delicious yoghurt which Germany is somewhat famous for having.||||All in all, I would definitely go back to Hotel Krone if I have the ways through...
Read moreThe staff in this hotel certainly make up for some of the shortcomings of the property. I had the pleasure to be part of the Australian Culinary Olympics teams for 10 days at this hotel, and without a doubt the staff went out of their way to assist where ever possibel, even to the extent to trying to find extra kitchens closer to Erfurt. Having said this, there are minor problems with the hotel, such as loose tiles in the bathroom, potentially dangerous, as they dislodge getting out of the tiny shower stall. Also, anyone with a problem walking up three flights of stairs with their luggage might look for a different hotel, there is no lift. It is very handy to the railway station - just over the road, as are the public buses. A good breakfast (although no changes to the offerings over 10 days) is included, the restaurant is also the bar during the evening, and thankfully it is...
