First and foremost, I do not partake in Live Action Role Play (LARP). Upon booking the hotel, I was nervous about the medieval theme, but looked forward to the 4-course candlelight dinner. We spent time at the Bodensee and stayed at Hotel Arthur before returning home. I am glad we decided to stay at this hotel. Newly renovated, we walked into the hotel and fresh herbs and citrus aroma was lightly in the air emitting a clean, fresh scent. We proceeded to check in and the service at the front desk was kind, inviting, and personable. The medieval theme was present, but with an air of elegance and no LARPers in sight. The room was tastefully done with a medieval theme and classic designs. The room was impeccably clean (as was the bathtub) and the turn down service included Toblerone and a fresh bottle of water. There were many nice toiletries including bath salts. We requested robes and slippers at the front desk, which were provided with a smile.
We went for our four course meal and the hostess kindly informed us the chefs in training had the kitchen for the evening. The dinner was served in a separate room next to the lobby (which was described as the lobby), which was nicely decorated with apothecary cabinets and nice tables. So, don't be taken aback when they describe it that way... it was actually one of the nicest dining rooms in the hotel. The meal was good, but the server kept forgetting our order and when she brought something it was wrong. It could have been the stress of managing the trainees, but I did notice other guests had the same problem. The creme brule was more of a unflavoured custard and I noticed a lack of vanilla flavour, despite the five specks of black on the bottom of the dish. This was a change request as the menu included a desert called Nun farts. Drinks were not included in the dinner, but were had for a fair price.
The bed was comfortable and the room was quite cozy, though we had the heat off (this might be because of in floor heating), and quiet despite being next to the parking lot. I didn't expect much for the included breakfast, but was happily surprised to see a beautiful spread of yogurts, vegan friendly items, freshly made eggs and bacon, fresh juices, and an upscale coffee machine for made to order coffee.
This hotel is an excellent choice for families and couples! Thanks for the...
Read moreMe and my partner we wanted something different, close but not too close to home, romantic but affordable, quite and professional and we found all of these in Hotel Arthus! We booked just few days before our arrival by phone and already from a quick call I could see that the staff of the hotel was very professional, extremely friendly and really caring for our needs and that made me look forward for our stay even more! ||When we arrived, our room was beautiful decorated with rose petals and candles and a cold champagne bottle was waiting for us! The room, a Junior Suite was beautiful, spacious, quite, very clean and very well and customer minded decorated and equipped! We took a walk around the hotel and in each tiny little corner we could see that the attention to details was present: beautiful spaces, well decorated, well illuminated, clean and cozy! In the evening we booked a 4 courses candle light dinner that was absolutely delicious from start to end! Our waitress was extremely friendly and professional; she took very good care of us and our needs through the all dinner and made sure we were happy with it! Beautiful dishes, equilibrated and delicate tastes made our dinner really remarkable! ||The breakfast the morning after was also up to the standards already set: a big variety was present on a beautiful buffet! And since a buffet is something rare anymore to see in Corona days is an obligation to mention that both staff and us customers were provided with gloves and disinfectant to be able to still enjoy the buffet in safety! ||Overall our stay was magnificent! I am have a Master degree in tourism, I had a restaurant for 6 years and currently owning with my family a B&B and basically having spent the last 15 years always in contact with tourism I much appreciated finding what I found in Hotel Arthus! The combination of the hotel in all its beauty, the staff and the gastronomy make this place something unique and we are really looking forward for...
Read moreWe booked a room for our first wedding anniversary. The hotel advertises multiple ‘romantic’ options which seemed like a nice idea. One of these was a ‘candle lit dinner’. We thought this to be a nice option to celebrate this special occasion and were happy to pay for the experience. What we expected and what we received were two very different things. Our table (one of three ‘candle lit experiences’) was placed awkwardly in the centre of the restaurant, surrounded by an ongoing screaming shamble of children and families. We’re a young couple and pretty tolerant of excessive noise but this was out of control. I know the restaurant is not liable for the behaviour of its guests but don’t advertise a ‘romantic experience’ if what you deliver is equal to being in a kindergarten classroom. We very politely explained our situation to the host, told them it was a special occasion, in which our only option was to come back later in the evening.||While the hotel attempts to deliver an experience for a ‘romantic getaway’ I would not recommend this place at all for couples. It’s more along the lines of what you would expect from a family friendly campsite. Again, I don’t expect the hotel to control its guests - just don’t advertise an experience if you can’t deliver it.||The rooms are very nice. I cannot fault...
