For my daughter's birthday, we decided to do something special. A night at the hotel, followed by a pleasant day at the Tierpark.
I'm glad my daughter loved the hotel, especially as she'll easily find any hotel good in the future.
The building dates back to the DDR, and the curtains in the room apparently haven't been washed since the fall of the wall (horrible smell). The hairdryer had the on/off button sunk in (it was difficult to use). Few of the showers in the Wellness area worked (but the 20 euro charge worked perfectly well). The coffee machine in the lobby didn't work; Right at check-in, the friendly receptionist apologized for the restaurant serving pizza and curry Wurst for dinner. "No problem," I thought. Although I was expecting a restaurant and not a snack bar. The restaurant was an experience not to be repeated: I ordered a quattro formaggi pizza, got a Margherita; I asked for a large Radeberger beer, I got something that tasted like Sprite; my wife asked for tea and a salami pizza; the bill: 2x quattro formaggi, 1x elster and 1x tea. Not to be unfair, my daughter's Currywurst with Pommes looked good. But to get the "child vs. pommes" ratio wrong would be too much.
Breakfast was plentiful, the bread was very tasty, but apart from that, nothing special. The coffee tasted like tea. The tea tasted like a sauna. The fruit juice seemed to have been made from the previous day's fruit salad.
I'd like to add that the lack of extra items such as toothpaste, slippers, water and a bathrobe doesn't really help the welcome experience.
The positive point is the staff. All extremely friendly and hard-working.
Verdict ( ) I recommend it to everyone and will return as soon as I can; ( ) It's good, but it could be better; ( ) Only look for this hotel if you have no other option; ( X ) It would have been better to sleep at Tierpark. I bet the food for the animals would have...
Read moreOverall we were very happy with our stay. The workers were very kind and everyone spoke English. Which we are grateful for. 🙏 We did not experience any noise from the hotel just city noise outside which is normal in the city, the elevators worked great, the lobby was nice with lots of brochures for the city. We did not try breakfast because it seemed pretty pricey in my opinion. The gym/sauna seemed a bit outdated and smelled a bit funky. Could definitely use a revamp! And the hotel is right next to the subway which someone from the hotel was nice enough to explain the subway route to me and once at the subway it was very easy to navigate once you find the sign on the wall that shows the subway route.
Overall our room was nice. We were on the 7th floor and For two people the room was plenty big, the room had a nice bathroom, comfortable beds a little stiff but not too stiff. We were sad it was just 2 twin beds together and not a double bed but, we didn't think it was worth making it a problem. If you've never been to Germany just know, the pillows might not be what you are used to. I bring my own pillow because I know I am picky. That's not on the hotel that's just on me. I gave a 4 star because of a few small things. If there's no AC in the hotel you should at least put screens on the windows we definitely had some bugs fly in with the windows open. There were a few mystery stains on the ceiling that kinda grossed me out but I forgot to mention when checking out that they should maybe clean the ceiling. And lastly it was really nice that they provided a fan you could plug in and use but it was very dusty so we didn't even bother turning it on. The fan needs a dusting. But if I was desperate I'm glad it was there.
Overall we enjoyed the hotel just a few minor complaints that are not...
Read moreI have to say I like this hotel. I stayed for four nights recently and the front desk staff were helpful and friendly every time I had cause to encounter them. The room I stayed in was functional but well equipped and the room staff serviced the room to a high standard. I especially liked the drinks vending machine in the reception area. Soft drinks, Weissbier, Pils and dark beer were all available from the machine and this gives a pleasant alternative to visiting the bar (it's also a lot cheaper!). The foyer area of the hotel is a very nice area to enjoy a beer after the day's business and outside benches are provided for if the weather is good enough (or for if you smoke!). Breakfast in the restaurant is buffet style and the food is of a high standard with a wide choice of options. I did visit the bar one evening and this experience raises my only criticism of this hotel. Upon paying my bill with cash, the barman asked me if I wanted my change. I was disappointed that the barman was, in effect, begging for money from customers and I felt that this lowered the tone of the hotel and undid some of the good work done by the front desk staff in providing a top class interface with customers. I could maybe comprehend it more had I been served at a table (it would still have been unacceptable) but I was sitting at the bar. Only a small complaint and it did not distract too much from the satisfaction of the overall stay. Transport links into the city and other places are great with the tram stop only a few minutes stroll away. Overall I have to recommend...
