Novotel Duesseldorf Airport — Hotel in Dusseldorf

I stayed here for one night (22.12.24) so I could get fast to an airport in the morning. During the night when I was sleeping someone tried to enter the room. Hopefully I heard the sound and woke up instantly. The guy somehow opened the door and was trying to move the chain, but I shouted at him so he run away.

I don't know how is it possible that a random guy managed to OPEN my door if it's works only with a room card. I don't know what could happened if I didn't hear the sound and didn't close the door with a chain on it.

I called the receptionist and he said he will check the floor, but all that time I was inside I didn't see anyone on my floor (through the door viewer). I decided to check out earlier than I originally planned (giving up 3 hours of sleep) because it was obvious that staying in the room was too scary for me.

The receptionist told me that there was a corporate event at the hotel and that drunk guests might have mistaken the rooms. When I asked how it was possible for someone to open the door and try to unlock the chain, he seemed surprised, apologised and just ordered me a taxi.

I regret not asking for a refund for the room or at least to cover the cost of my taxi as compensation, because all I wanted was to leave that place as soon...

Standard rooms with very comfortable beds. Despite this, no amenities (only a few towels and the worst hair dryer I've ever tried) and serious electrical problems (half of the plugs were out of order). In addition, during the night there was an annoying buzz coming from the ceiling. Breakfast is average for the hotel category, with good variety and quality. Very negative note the staff, rude and not at all collaborative. Priority check in (ALL members) closed, impossible to order breakfast because staff does not speak English (I just asked for two poached or fried eggs - ridiculous), I got charged €20 for an umbrella and the staff kept 10 min to do the payment with the taxi outside… Overall I do not recommend Novotel Airport, average room but noisy and with no amenities and unfriendly staff. I stayed at this hotel twice in recent weeks and I could not be happier. The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming and supportive and the check-in is incredibly efficient. The rooms are all brand new, spacious and well equipped with power outlets, nice lighting and neat design features. The Executive rooms on the top floor are particularly nice and worth the extra money. The lobby has a nice seating area and the restaurant has a decent selection of food and drinks, particularly compared to some other airport hotels. Breakfast is very good too. All in all this is a great hotel and we will certainly stay here again. As with most "airport" hotels that are not actually directly connected with the terminal the distance can be a bit of an inconvenience but the hotel is easily reached by taxi in 4-5 mins for about 10...
