The hotel has two parts: the old, early 20th century main house, and the later-added section to the side. I have not seen the newer rooms and cannot speak to their comfort or size etc., so this review is only about the old part of the building. ||I was stayed here for three nights for a wedding, in a single bedroom. Here are the good and the bads. ||||Good:||||-Location: It's a 20 min walk to the Heidelberg Schloss, and if you walk down the hill, there are bus connections to the city. The area itself is beautiful, and I had a lot of fun looking at the grand old houses. Also, since it is residential, it was incredibly quiet at night. ||-breakfast buffet was decent and plenty, and you could always ask for more. ||-the building itself is quirky and special, definitely not a random cookie cutter hotel||-parking: the hotel itself has parking, and the streets around as well.||||Bad: ||-accessibility: The old building does not have an elevator, and not even a ramp to get into the building. Maybe the newer part is wheelchair accessible. ||-The building is old, and in dire need of a renovation. The bathrooms were all renovated as far as I could tell, but they were tiny! ||-old beds: I have slept in better hostel beds. The headboard was dirty from all of the bed's occupants, and the mattress was completely lain through- it had a big dip in the middle. ||- While the cleaning crew came most every day, there were just a few spots that were missed, and sometimes I couldn't tell whether it was just plain old, or dirty or both. ||||I had the feeling that the employees seemed aware of problems and frustrated by the lack of management. That being said, there were a few egregious behaviors that I found upsetting: 1) coming out of the breakfast room, I overheard them talk about another guest, another member of the wedding party. While I understand that the service industry can be a frustrating place to work in, complaining about guests in earshot of others is plain unprofessional. 2) When I was checking out, I shlepped my suitcase down two flights of chairs. The manager came out of his office, saw me, and just kept walking. If you do not have an elevator, and you see a guest carrying a big suitcase, at least offer help. 3) I actually went to the reception desk and asked if I could get into another room, as I didn't sleep well in my bed. I was told that there'd be only a "Business" single room free, and it would be 20Euro more expensive. At this point, I declined. I don't know whether it was in the woman at the reception's power to just waive the 20 Euro, but that is what I would have done, had I been in her place and a guest complained and...

Read moreI stayed at Parkhotel Atlantic twice - first time by myself for a couple of nights in July, second time with my husband in September. On my first visit, I stayed in the 'new' building and it was great even despite a loud group of kids on the first night. The room was very nice, modern, spacious, clean, light and comfortable, with a beautiful view. On the second stay, however, we were given a room on the top floor of the main 'old' building and I was really disappointed when we got there. Small dark-ish room, two separate beds pushed together instead of a proper queen bed, separate bathroom accessible through a corridor shared with another room (no one was there though), loud engine-like sounds (aircon) from the outside throughout the night and poor sound insulation from the staircase etc.||Apart from the rooms themselves, the hotel gets 5* from me - attentive and helpful staff, great breakfast. It's a bit old-fashioned in terms of how everything is set-up (from check-in/out to serving the coffee to order at breakfast), and that's great.||Location is a bit out of the way (and a climb from the old town), nice if you want to avoid the tourist crowds. A cab to the train station will put you...
