Karlstor in Munich is a medieval city gate, which served as a defensive fortficiation and a checkpoint. It is located at the western end of Neuhauser Straße, a portion of Munich's down-town pedestrian zone, which was part of the salt road and the east-west thoroughfare of the historic old town.

If you take the train until Heidelberg Altstadt and then walk to the city, this will be on your way. It's nice to check it out. The style of its architecture is close to the Arc de Triumph from Paris. Love it.

Durch das Karlstor betritt man die wunderschöne Altstadt Heidelbergs. Das Tor erinnert an ein römisches Tor, aber das ist ja auch Absicht. Das Tor liegt ein wenig neben der eigentlichen Straße und geht deshalb fast ein wenig unter. Auch der Bahnhof in direkter Nähe drückt das Karlstor etwas in den Hintergrund. Sofern man mit dem Wohnmobil nach Heidelberg kommt, kann man am Bahnhof sehr gut gebührenpflichtig parken und zu Fuß die Heidelberger Altstadt entdecken.

Wuchtig und Imposant, wie es bei dieser Art von Ehrbezeugungen in der Regel.der Fall ist, steht das Karlstor unübersehbar vor Ort. Es ist ein Reliquie aus vergangener Zeit, die man unter historischer Bedeutung betrachten sollte. Früher hatten solche Monumente einen andern Stellenwert und galten als Ehrerbietung. Das Karlstor ist von seiner Klotzigkeit abgesehen zwar relativ bescheiden verziert, hat nebst den beiden Säulen aber doch die Insignien eines Wappenschilds mit zwei Löwen die es bewachen.
