This review will have some cob webs on it as my visit there was back in 1999. I would say the this property is not a full service luxury hotel. Its place in history makes it great. The owner is a delightful woman who once she warmed up to us was very pleasant. At first a little cold but in my experience German people are not very chatty until they get to know you. ||||I too had a cold cut lunch at berg Gutenfels and it was fantastic, by no means was it pre packaged it was terrific along the line of a wonderful Charcuterie plate. The bread was fabulous and the Wine was the best Reisling I have ever Had. In all if you are a Ritz Carlton type traveller you may find this hotel a disappointment. However for the independent traveller looking to enjoy something off the beaten path and a taste of local culture you will love your stay here.||||Be sure to explore the grounds, on the wall in the dining room there is a mural showing a cave/tunnel. My son, nephew and I found it and did some exploring it was incredible but be sure to bring a flashlight. A quick tip the opening to the cave is a couple hundred yards above the driveway entrance. the road is very steep and narrow but lightly...
Read moreAmazing Castle to stay and spent a night or two (or more). We only stayed for one night. The room was spacious, and had everything we needed (we stayed in room "Stube Liebenstein" which shows a TV on the hotel's webpage, though there was none, we didn't mind). Breakfast is included and offers scrambled eggs, croissant, rolls and a selection of different spreads, ham, cheese etc. Parking is close to the castle, one still has to walk up the hill a little bit (but you can unload in front of the main gate before parking your car). The town is not far and walkable (it took us ~15 minutes though it is all uphill returning to the castle which can take a lot longer depending on personal fitness level). The castle even offers a sauna (we didn't use) and huge garden one can access. We believe all 5 apartments were taken during our stay, but we barely saw other guests and had the garden all to ourselves. There is a self-servcice bar, which makes it easy to get a cold beverage. If you always wanted to stay in a real castle, this one is for you. If you stay in this area, this is an excellent hotel even if staying in a castle is not your dream. We enjoyed our stay to...
Read moreSummer 2022: This hotel is newly opened and has only five rooms. It was previously used as the owners' home and as a (larger) hotel several years ago. Since the hotel is now completely new, old reviews (before 2022) should be disregarded. Here is the review we posted to Booking.com, but we forgot to mention the sauna available to the guests in one of the towers and that the castle serves its own bottled still or sparkling water.||||||If you have the opportunity to stay at this authentic medieval castle, you should immediately grasp it!||It was difficult for me to believe that this 5-bed hotel is actually a part of this old castle, but it was. The service was exceptional and personalized, the rooms modern and comfortable, and included a full kitchen where we made dinner for the whole family. The gardens are beautiful and the view of course, spectacular.||In the evening, we played games in the library with a self-service bar. The breakfast with warm croissants was perfect.||During the stay, we felt that we were treated like royal guests by the owners of this beautiful castle after we have left, we are grateful for being allowed...
