My husband and I made our second trip to Europe at the end of July 2024 and he wanted to stay in a castle on the Rhine River. Out of all the castles we have looked at online, we both chose Liebenstein! We were looking for one that did Not look like a hotel! We wanted to stay in one that had the Most authentic Medieval style, and this was the One! We are so glad we chose Castle Liebenstein for it's authentic Medieval charm, as well as Everything it had to offer! We stayed there for two nights, and wished it was longer! Upon getting off the ferry, our cab driver picked us up and took us to the castle. The cab driver was Great with getting us around, when needed. The owner, Klaus and his staff were Very Welcoming and helped us get settled into our Gorgeous spacious suite. Anna kindly helped us get our backpacks up the narrow winding staircase. Haha I've never seen a staircase so narrow! Our room was Beautiful and I Loved how the sitting room was separate from the bedroom. It had a GORGEOUS view of the castle next door, as well Beautiful views of the Rhine River. I felt like Rupunzel in our window, facing the castle, next door. I Loved that our room was so high up! It was Very quiet and so peaceful! The bed was very comfortable, as well as the room's atmosphere. Everything the chef cooked from the 5 course meal, to the breakfasts were EXCELLENT!! The 5 course meal was Extremely Romantic, and we had the Best view of the Rhine. EVERYTHING was so DELICIOUS as well as how Beautifully they were arranged on the plates! You get ALOT of food, so you will never go hungry! The Breakfasts by Klaus, were AMAZING and there was so much Variety of meats, cheeses, breads, jams, sauces, pastries, fruit, and yogurt. The breakfasts were Enjoyable and Cozy! We were seated in a cozy area of the breakfast room and Enjoyed another view by the window. Klaus took good care of us, and made sure we had enough coffee and crumpets during our breakfast both mornings. We explored the Entire castle admiring all the architecture and the Amazing Medieval decor! We thoroughly Enjoyed a glass of wine in the outdoor Cafe, as well as the secluded courtyard, that has Breathtaking views! We explored the grounds outside, and enjoyed being in nature and having peace and quiet. We also Enjoyed the little gift shop that was on site, where we brought back home some treasures. The history of the castle is also Very Interesting! Klaus did an AMAZING job decorating the castle the way it is! We did Not want to leave! We Definitely plan to come back and stay at Castle Liebenstein again in the future! Our stay was AMAZING and we Enjoyed Every bit of it Very Much!! THANK YOU Klaus, Anna, and Chef for making our stay, so BEAUTIFUL and Memorable!! We will be Back! If I could give 10 stars on this castle, I would! HIGHLY Recommend...

Driving the scenic Rhine route is already a treat on its own, but stopping at Hotel-Restaurant-Café Burg Liebenstein near Kamp-Bornhofen really added something extra to our day. We pulled off the road and parked right next to the castle, which is super convenient—no need to climb hills or walk far. The view from the terrace is absolutely worth the stop, with the Rhine stretching out below and vineyards lining the hills. We ordered a glass of Riesling, and I have to say, the waitress didn’t hold back—our glasses were filled right to the rim, which felt like such a nice touch compared to some of the half-filled pours you get elsewhere. It’s not a place you rush through; the relaxed atmosphere invites you to sit back and take it all in. They do have a small hotel and offer shuttle service from their partner hotel in Kamp-Bornhofen if you arrive by train, which makes it accessible even if you aren’t driving. Just keep in mind they don’t accept card payments, so bring cash along to avoid any surprises. While it’s lovely in any season, visiting in spring or summer when you can sit outside is definitely the best way to experience it. The road getting there is narrow in places, but it’s all part of the adventure. It’s not overly touristy, which I appreciated—it feels like a place you just happen upon, with good wine, great views, and a quiet, easygoing vibe that makes you want to stay a...

My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at this authentic castle in September. We stayed for three nights and had a romantic candlelit dinner. The castle itself is very cute and authentic. The interior looks medieval and it's definitely worth a visit based on the experience. We had a room facing the Rhine and it was gorgeous. The cushioned castle seats next to the window were perfect for reading. The hiking around the area is equally as gorgeous. I loved the castle's location because of the proximity to nature and the hiking trails, but they can be strenuous. Even hiking with my suitcase up to the castle was difficult at times, so I advise taking a car up there. The candlelit dinner was made up of 5 courses and will definitely fill you up by the end of it. My only criticism was that the main dish tasted a bit too salty for me. For dietary restrictions, they did well with accommodating my vegan boyfriend. Please make sure to communicate beforehand any dietary restrictions. Unfortunately there was a mix up initially and they did not know he is vegan, but by breakfast they made sure he was well accommodated. Breakfast was lovely and will definitely fill you up. The owner was very nice and overall we had a very good vacation. Please note that they only accept cash. There is a geldautomat in Kamp-Bornhofen, but it would be good to...

From the very first moment we arrived, everything felt perfect. The kindness of the staff, the warm atmosphere, and the incredible view from every room made the experience unforgettable. The castle offers a truly authentic medieval atmosphere—you can genuinely feel transported to another time. The historical artifacts throughout the property beautifully showcase the castle’s rich and diverse history. The hotel itself feels very home-like and intimate, and the owner was exceptionally kind and responsive. One evening, he even entrusted us to stay alone in the castle, which made the experience even more special and surreal. If you come here expecting a Michelin-starred restaurant or the polish of a modern 5-star hotel, this may not be for you. But if you’re looking for something authentic, rare, and soulfully unique, this place may truly be one-of-a-kind in the world. As a small note for improvement, it would be wonderful to address the slight smell from the kitchen and to take some preventative steps regarding occasional insects, which are understandable in a historic building but could enhance guest comfort further. Despite that, this was honestly the best hotel experience I’ve had, and I truly hope to return one day. A well-deserved five stars to the entire team!

This is a great restaurant not so much for the food that you get here but the location. It’s perched high up in the castle overlooking the Rhine. The view from the small garden close by is stupendous and the restaurant, done up with antique armour and weapons of an era gone by, make the impression great. We came here as part of large group of tourists with Trafalgar and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. We had vehicles that brought us up to to the castle from our cruise ship - we were cruising the Rhine. The food was a predefined menu but took a long time to be served. Perhaps it was something to do with the large numbers of our group. Be that as it may, this was the only thing which was irritating. If you visit on your own, and have smaller numbers, you will be able to enjoy the hospitality and food to a greater extent than we did. A great place. Make sure you carry your cameras.
