We have just returned from a six day break to the beautiful Rhine valley. We stayed at the Rhinehotel Wagner through Caledonian travel for three nights. It is set in a quiet street with a popular restaurant near by. The owner welcomed us on arrival, he was very friendly. Our room was disappointing after some of the reviews we had read. Our twin bedroom was very dated and it didn’t help that all the bedding was a dull slate grey colour. The bathroom consisted of a toilet and shower but the wash basin was outside the bathroom on a different wall which we found strange and unhygienic. The WiFi is unavailable in the bedrooms as you have to be very close to the hub which was outside in the bar area. The outside bar has a nice terrace with tables, however there was one night of the three we stayed (as paying guests) we were not allowed on the terrace from 7pm.as there was a private party going on! The dining area looked like it could previously have been a bar as the tables are all set in booths. This meant that they had to be shared which we didn’t mind as there were some nice people on our trip and we were lucky to share with two lovely ladies. There is a set menu so its a case of like it or lump it , saying that the food was ok. When the first course came it was soup, as it was every night, however the main course was served in sharing platters and bowls which made everyone conscious of not taking too much, often leaving food uneaten. The desert came and was literally dropped or thrown along the table, on the first night my husband had to literally catch it before it flew off the table. We found the waiting staff very rude and unfriendly. One of the ladies dining with us stood up and stepped over to the opposite booth to speak to someone when suddenly the waitress yelled in a very nasty manner “SIT IN YOUR SEAT AND LET ME DO MY JOB” ( nice) The whole dining room heard this. Why didn’t she just say excuse me? The breakfast was continental, very limited choice and set out in a way that the queue was one way before ending in a corner for tea or toast which caused quite a bottleneck. The last morning of our stay I was at the breakfast bar when suddenly the waitress shouted in my face, “YOU CANT USE THAT PLATE” it was just an ordinary plate so I asked why and was told that those plates were for the evening meal, I asked why they were there if we couldn’t use them but she just stormed off. After breakfast they had the audacity to put out a box asking for tips The only tip I have is to get some customer service training, work on your attitude and I promise if you crack a smile your head won’t fall off. At the end of the day we are paying guests that keep you in a job, a bit respect would be nice. The owner was nowhere to be seen on the morning our trip left, possibly heard about all the complaints. We cannot fault the Caledonian service but I do think they need it do further reviews of the...

No extra portions or bread allowed. You dare not ask!|Hotel staff - some very good. Some not so good. Older female has been mentioned in other reviews and has not changed her unhospitable ways. “Hospitality” is the key word when you are running a hotel. Mean spirited, at times unpleasant and short sightedness with regard to guests - needs rethinking.|Caledonian PLEASE NOTE THESE COMMENTS - this hotel would not serve a glass of tap water with an evening meal. Prices for drinks are overinflated. We dare not even ask for a spot of milk for our tea in the morning (brought our own kettle). Mean - plain mean. Not our experience of any Hotel ever!|Would be happy to pay extra in the holiday for toiletries in room, water (at the very least) with Dinner, wifi in room.|Beautiful area, nice length of break. So sad about meanness in Hotel. Totally avoidable but past reviews show they have not learnt from their...
Read moreJust returned from a coach holiday with Caledonian Travel who use this hotel. Perhaps the powers that be at Caledonian should do a few spot checks on their hotels! This was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at in a very long time. The twin room was certainly a good size and clean but that’s as far as it goes. The beds were pushed together rather than set up as twins. The sink is in the room and there was rarely hot water for more than a couple of minutes - a common complaint among the group. We didn’t chance a cold shower and managed with cleansing wipes - luckily neither of us are Sweaty Bettys. When we arrived, the room was freezing - vinyl tiled floors don’t help - but we turned the heating up full. It was turned back down every day by staff. The beds were clean but bed linen was unironed and the pillows were more like zipped pillow protectors filled with foam chips! Continental breakfast was as you’d expect but only two choices at dinner - take it or leave it! Dinner on two nights was ok but on the third night it was virtually inedible. There is no lounge open apart from one night when there was ‘entertainment’ and there is nowhere else to go in the village. |Caledonian Travel - you need...
