I stayed 4 nights at the Kolossos on the occasion of the Medica Trade Show in Dusseldorf in mid November 2012.||At that time hotel availability in the Düsseldorf area is terrible and prices are a proper rip-off.||I booked the hotel through an agency (paid upfront, no refunds possible) and chose it for its relatively "modest" price of €206.50/day B&B - for the sake of comparison, I was informed that this hotel's price outside of Trade Show periods is €50-60/night.||Also important for me were the availability of a car park, free wifi throughout the hotel and relative proximity to Düsseldorf.||The hotel is tired, run down and in serious need of refurbishment.||I checked in to room 13 which proved to be an unlucky throw of the dice.||As requested I got a double for single use, overlooking an internal courtyard and therefore very quiet.||I could not find a wifi network, despite many endeavours and the many assurances that there was a LAN available. Ultimately the hotel manager admitted that there was problem and shrugged off my objections as all rooms have a cable connection. I have a modern laptop without an ethernet connection but that apparently was MY problem. After a polite but very frank exchange with the manager I must have made an impression as, in time for my last night, he offered me a flash drive with internet access through telephone service providers.||I thus spent 3/4 of my stay roaming on my mobile telephone account.||Now the room!||Room 13 has a clear glass window in the bathroom - yes, clear! - with a broken roman blind to protect my modesty.||In the morning I discovered that there was only (very) hot water in the bathroom so I was unable to wash or shower. I made my way to the restaurant (from where the hotel is run) and demanded the key to another room.||I was given room 11 and, ascertaining that there was now cold as well as hot water (and no window in the bathroom!), I promptly moved my belongings there.||Unfortunately, room 11 overlooks not just the main road but a junction at the main road and it's very noisy. Sleep deprivation ensued, aided by the perfunctory decorative strips of cloth that pass for curtains at the Kolossos (see photo).||One and only one positive note: the Greek restaurant is fine. Dine there if you will but do not stay.||Oh, and I was able to...
Read moreUnbearable noise. We paid for 2 nights via booking.com but stayed only 1 night. We stayed on a hot summer night, so we had to keep the windows opened. Our room was on the street side and it is a really busy street with a non stop noise of cars and trucks driving by. Also, people were talking loud and shouting at night so we could not sleep at all. We asked for a change of room on the other side the next day, but she offered an apt that was more expensive and no compensation for the first night. Since there is no fan or air condition, you had to keep the windows open and the noise was truly unbearable. Very unfriendly reception. Upon arrival, instead of welcoming us, she lectured me that I had not checked my emails or sms with a 6 digit code for the door to the room because I asked where to check in. After a long ways travel, you expect that your host will welcome you and not lecture you that you did not check your email! There is no breakfast service. You can look for a bakery a mile away (1.3 km) but we left the place for good after one night because it was all so unpleasant. The lady was finally in a good mood when I called to say we have left the hotel after one night but paid for 2 nights! The parking space was all occupied when we arrived so we had to look for a place to park on the streets. But the hotel car was parked at the parking space. The shower door is extremely difficult to open and close. I thought it was first broken. But the quality of the door is so bad that it will take you a lot of time to open and close it. Because it was a hot summer day/night we had to take a shower after sweating so much. They have a strange screen on the wall that you can not switch off so it will never get dark in the room when you want to sleep. This was annoying. There is no elevator. We were on the third floor (2nd floor in Europe) and there are a lot of steps if you have luggage. A kind man who was a friend of the owner helped us with the luggage. The Greek restaurant was nice. The waiter was also very kind and attentive. The room we stayed in (room 10) is definitely one of the worst rooms at this hotel facing the street and also a lot of stairs if you have luggage. I will never come back to this hotel and will not recommend...
Read morePrice The price of this room was very expensive compared to the facilities offered. It's a rip-off. The furniture is extremely old (at least 30 years old), it's more like a cheap motel than a 3-star hotel. For the same price you can get a good room in ibis at Düsseldorf Hbf.
⚫️Room Where do I even begin... You enter the door, and you get greeted by an attic (look at the picture). I've seen doghouses bigger than this room. Half of the room's space is taken away from the slanted wall since this room was in the attic. I kept bumping my head and arms on the wall when I was in bed.
The bathroom door hit the toilet seat each time I opened it. The cabin doors of the showers were very old and janky.
The room reeks of cigarettes. The walls, curtains, and beddings seem to have absorbed the smell. Ironically, they have a "don't smoke or you get fined" card in the room.
Unfortunately, I read the Google reviews after I came into the room and saw what a horror it was. There are a lot of bad reviews, and funnily enough, the owners make up excuses for each one of the bad reviews.
The rooms were somewhat clean, but spider webs were everywhere, bathroom tiles were covered with bits of dust and hair and towels stinked. The owners have clearly forgotten about the place long ago and just harvest whatever money they can get from the rooms.
⚫️Location The hotel is in a secluded area, at least 40 minutes far from Düsseldorf Hbf by public transport. It's very far and doesn't justify the price at all.
P.s. the photos from the owners are either heavily edited, photoshopped, or captured in very...
