Stayed here for 4 nights as a convenient base to explore the Black Forest area and also South Eastern France / Alsace by train.||Let’s start with the relative downsides. The property is located in a very commercial and relatively brutal looking location, and is a brisk 5 minute walk from the station and about 10-15 minute’s walk from the city centre. It’s not a pretty walk but it is perfectly safe. Nearby there’s another budget hotel, a large Kaufland supermarket, a petrol station, a couple of independent eateries and a McDonalds but nothing particularly attractive at all. ||Turning to the plus points, Offenburg itself offers much more in the way of shops, cafes, bars and eateries and is a pleasant and well kept market town. It enjoys excellent connections by rail to other parts of Germany and into Switzerland and France using cross border trains which run reasonably frequently, with those to Strasbourg being the least frequent but probably the most popular. They are therefore the most crowded and sometimes quite uncomfortable and hot in the warmer months for the 30-minute journey to the so-called ‘Capital of Europe’. You can also reach the wonderful Europa Park theme park by train from this location, making the Holiday Inn Express in Offenburg a great choice for touring the region by rail or by car too. The hotel does have its own chargeable car park and free overnight on-street parking outside. ||What also makes it a great choice are its cool, spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable bedrooms which are well maintained and offer a large TV, in-room kettle and an iron and ironing broad. The inclusive breakfast buffet was very good indeed, offering largely continental (cold) breakfast items but with pancakes, boiled and scrambled eggs available too. Whilst a rasher crispy bacon would have been a nice addition to the offering, I was impressed that the hotel served good quality items exemplified by its choice of Kelloggs cereals and Granini juices. ||Service at the property was attentive, personable and efficient and the cost of the room was a bargain compared with the cost of similar budget hotels across the border in Strasbourg, most of which looked much less desirable than this one.||I’m really glad I chose to stay here and would be happy to do so again. ...
Read moreWe have stayed at IHG Hotels many times, particularly Holiday Inn Express Hotels, in many European countries. We have enjoyed this hotel as much as all other IHG Hotels.|I must mention particularly about Receptionist, Cosima, who went an extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. When we checked in I did not mention I am an IHG member, since I did the booking via booking.com. However, after checking and after having dinner we came to the hotel bar for drinks. Just before we ordered drinks Cosima came to us and said "I found out that you are an IHG member, and therefore, as a thank we would like to offer 2 complimentary drinks". I was very surprised not just getting 2 complimentary drinks, but she went beyond her job and searched our names, so she found out I am an IHG member. We were so touched by her service-minded attitude.|Cosima was the one who checked us in, that too very quick & professional.|Breakfast - we are aware almost all IHG hotels provide breakfast incl. in the rooms which is a huge a service to the guests. However, if the hotel can provide bit more hot items that would be perfect.|Everything in the room was clean and organized. We will definitely stay once again...
Read moreIt was last minute 10pm due to train strikes on our way to Paris Disneyland from Mannheim. We left at 2pm and so I got off here so the kids could sleep. The check in gentleman (Aladis? with a beard) saw I was so tired with 2 kids alone late at night after a super hectic/stressful day with trains changing schedule then cancelled everywhere. He had a big smile and gummy bears for the kids and gave me a room level 1 opposite the elevator (thus, the fastest to get to). He was quick and kind and it made a huge difference to my day. We left again at 6.30am set to continue on, he was still on shift and had breakfast boxes ready to go. Huge applause for such a great employee (and I was not a super chatty customer simply because I was so tired and stressed, he saw the situation straight away). ||The hotel itself is super modern and bright and welcoming, the room is again super modern and well designed with a mega comfy bed. I would definitely want to stay here again, under different circumstances! (so do my kids, maybe the gummy bears :) It was also just a 4 minute walk from the...
