We stayed one week in July with 2 adults and 2 children (3&7 years).||||Overall the hotel is to recommend for a stay with children; offers a fair value for money. ||||Positive points:||- Nice room; we booked the so called "family apartment 1b" type: spacious and nicely refurbished hotel suite with 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchenette, bathroom (without bath or shower) and extra bathroom with separate shower.||- Catering was good; with booked the all-in formula with:||1) breakfast: typical buffet (incl. boiled & scrambled eggs, but not prepared according to individual wishes). I only missed croissants; was offered only 1 day out of the 7.||2) lunch: buffet with soup, cold starters, 3 main dishes (good variety during the week), desserts, and a separate children's buffet (always fries + a type of pasta + meet or fish that varies over the week).||3) afternoon snacks and desserts (croques, sandwiches, fruit, pastry, ice-cream).||4) dinner: choice between main restaurant with setup comparable to the lunch or the "specialty restaurant" (entitled to visit 2x/week) with cheese fondue, chinese meat fondue or spare-ribs and burgers (NB: in that restaurant, there is a separate children area in case the children wish to eat with their club friends and their food is presented in boots like in some sushi bars).||5) drinks: non-alcoholic (until 22h) and fountain with 4 wines & 2 beers (until 21h).||Not a gastronomic delight, but above average quality & variation when comparing to most other hotel buffets I experienced.||- Activities for the children: outdoor & indoor playgrounds, children's clubs for different age groups with daily different acitivities, free and unlimited access to new "Fundorena" indoor sports center accross the street (trampoline park, synthetic ice skating rink, 8 high ropes tracks).||- Indoor swimming pool with slide and (small) wellness area. Free towels and bathrobes.||- Hochschwarzwald card: gives free or reduced access to a series of tourist attractions, including daily free 15mins pony riding (indoor, accross the street), daily free trip on the mountain cable car, daily free entrance for 1,5 hours to tropical swimming complex Badeparadies Titisee (15 mins drive) with lots of slides,...||- Area: though not comparable with a mountain holiday in the Alps, still nice walking tracks. The village itself has not a lot to offer however. Tip for children

My wife, myself, and our 3 kids (3), (6), and (8), traveled to this hotel for a 4-day weekend in January. Driving up was no problem. Check-in was fast and smooth. You’re greeted by some of the kids theming. We were quickly granted access to the parking garage attached to the hotel. Our room was a spacious family-apartment. It was clean, well appointed, and absolutely kid-friendly. For all the kids theming downstairs, the room felt more normal. My wife and I didn’t feel like we’re were sleeping in fairy tale.
As far as food goes, here’s what you get included when you book: Dinner day of arrival Breakfast, lunch, dessert hour, and dinner each full day Breakfast and lunch day of departure.
The food selection was expansive. More refined meats and vegetables for adults with salads, cheeses, and fruits. Then there was the same for kids but also with either nuggets, pasta, or something more their speed. Then there’s the desserts: gelato, pastries.
You also get use of the Hochschwarzwald card. This gives you one free daily admission to some of the activities in the vicinity of the hotel. We went to the Fundo-Rena daily. It houses a jump park, high ropes confidence course, indoor playgrounds, and a small cafe. The card also give you perks, like free sled rental at the ski shop.
The pool area is amazing: large swim area with separate enclosed slide. Plenty of room to spread out!
The ski slopes are literally feet from the door to the hotel. From all over the hotel, you can see people going up the lifts and skiing. There’s an on-site ski shop with rental gear as well as a snowboard shop. You’ve also got two schools so you can book lessons if you’re a beginner.
With so much to do, here’s what a day looks like: 0800–wake up; get breakfast 1000-1200–morning activity 1200-1300–lunch 1300-1630–skiing OR 1300-1530 rest time 1530-1700 pool time (you can book 90 minute pool slots) 1700-1830–dinner 1830-2000–Fundo-Rena 2000–get ready for the next day
There’s also a great sledding hill next to the ski slopes. This was very fun and easy to access.
The hotel staff was amazing—everyone was so kind and patient with us and our limited German language skills. Most if not all spoke English, and they were all interested in your stay being as great as possible. The dinner staff can help you get silverware, will clear used plates, and help you find whatever it is you need.
We look forward to booking for this summer to experience the summer-side of this place. Cannot wait...
Read moreAll around fantastic place with kids, great indoor and outdoor activities. There are things to improve but I'll still give them a 5-star rating as it was a great experience overall. Great kitchen: good variety and healthy food, good for kids who just want to eat fries and ice cream otherwise congrats to the whole kitchen team from cooks to service! It definitely was a highlight to visit the restaurant 3 times a day. As for allergies, there are vegetarian and vegan options and 6 different varieties of milk for breakfast from lactose free to soya- and almond-milk, fantastic! Also yoghurts are default lactose-free, which was a godsend for me.
Great activities: indoor and outdoor activities are as described on the webpage. Fantastic offering, just take a look through the website
Things to improve: online booking on the webpage with instant calendar view. It shouldn't be that hard in 2021. sometimes concierge just didn't pick up the phone. This is frustrating if you can't leave the room with a baby and you'll need more toilet paper :-) I was faster to go down to concierge and ask for things than them picking up the phone. Not good. the lifts are a catastrophe. Slow and only 2 units, and they stop in the wrong directions only to make people skip the ride and delay the rest. I was routinely waiting 3+ minutes every day multiple times.... With the Covid restrictions, at least what you could do is to apply direction-specific calling logic so an elevator going down would not stop for people who want to go up. soft drinks are all sugar-sugar-sugar. The Apple drink had to be diluted 3:1 to be drinkable. Orange, Citron, Coke, all just sugar. I know that's what kids want, but you can certainly make it less sweet. Fruit in the café throughout the day was really limited in variety (melons to 85%) and way too refrigerated. You could really offer other fresh fruits than banana, apple and orange in the summer. Childcare services (under 3) were a disaster. Some of the staff didn't really speak German (or English), had lackluster (if any) attitude, failed to call us when our child was crying his heart out. You need a change in staff as kids are the most important part of this venue. They deserve much better, every single employee needs to be top here in order not to have "bad luck" with...
