We’re a couple from the USA who base their traveling decisions on reviews! We booked this property in December as a Christmas gift. First we stayed in Accra, then Cape Coast…and the next week we were to stay here at Ike’s Cultural Village in Kumasi.

Two days prior to arriving, I messaged the number for the property and was actually speaking to the owner. He told us that everything is fine and our reservation was all set.

The night before our arrival we received a message stating that the property was booked! I replied to this message. She proceeded to tell me that they had too many reservations and could not honor ours because they did not have any more rooms available.

Here we are in a foreign country with no friends or family…and we were told “we apologize for the inconvenience.”

It’s not as simple as that…because now we had to find other accommodations at the last minute.

This was scary, frustrating , and disappointing…we had to do last minute research to find an alternative —safe and secure— place to stay for a whole week.

Then we spoke with this lady named Karen (who said she was a teacher from Virginia…a close friend and business partner to the owner). After acting all concerned, she took all of our information and said that she would get back in touch with us…til this day we haven’t heard anything from her.

Definitely would not...

The hotel was a great experience overall but could have been better

Pros The decor is beautiful traditional African decor and the gore is unique and well decorated

Staff are so helpful and friendly

The area is generally serene

The hotel is located centrally in town. It is also within the cultural centre and opposite the restaurant

The breakfast is great - they serve a mix of continental and local dishes

Cons

The hot water in my room wasn’t working and took a while to fix so I had to take 2 cold showers

The TV only had 2 working channels and the other channels had to much static to watch. Staff assisted so I was able to get 4 channels but it’s not great

No rugs in the room

They need new hangers in the room - they only had warped wire ones

The bath mat had not been washed and was dirty

The music from the restaurant is far too loud and as my room was facing that way it was all I could hear until I fell asleep at around midnight/1am. I had to use earplugs. They should warn guests or provide earplugs.

The standard room was too small - the door when open would block access to the sink and you had to step over the toilet to get out of the shower

Verdict - I would definitely stay again but they need to fix these minor issues to truly make it...

Ikes Cultural Village is a hidden gem for anyone seeking a blend of relaxation, culture, and a touch of adventure. The centerpiece is undoubtedly the large pond teeming with catfish, where visitors can select their catch for a truly fresh dining experience. It adds an interactive and authentic touch to the visit. The restaurant serves delicious, locally inspired dishes, and the freshness of the fish is unbeatable. The atmosphere is peaceful, making it a perfect spot for a meal with family or friends. Accommodation options are also available, with rooms that are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed to complement the cultural ambiance. It's a great choice for an overnight stay if you're looking to escape the hustle of city life. Overall, Ike’s Cultural Village is more than just a destination—it's an experience that combines culture, nature, and culinary delight. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something unique!

Location is ideal- nestled in the Ghana nation cultural centre. Nothing beats this! Facilities are excellent- pictures I’ve seen so far don’t do justice. The layout was well thought. Located opposite the “grill and bar”, nicely decorated with Asante decoration. Good expensive finishings. Room - nicely decorated, clean, neat, huge sized Staff - amazing, all the people were so kind and made my stay even more comfortable and memorable. The place is worth the price, I loved it! Only 2 dislikes: 1. breakfast, I got it cold on all days and it was not good. Simple and cold, not to standard I expected for such a nice place. 2. No coffee/tea station in room, being a hot beverage drinker, it was hard purchasing every time I needed a cup. Would be nice if it was complimentary.
