La Moara is situated on a hillside, overlooking the enchanted village of Nymfaio. It is built in the traditional “arhontico” local style (manor house), with stone walls and timber ceilings, joints and staircase. The rooms are delightfully traditional, in the prevailing “vlahiko” style, taking its name from the very old, local tribe that first inhabited this part of Greece. Our room, one of the two in the attic, exuded charm and originality. The main building is surrounded by magnificent lawned gardens, with a beautiful and tranquil sitting area in the front, ideal for enjoying a cup of coffee with some local sweets or a glass of wine! |The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Eleni, the owner, really looked after us and Yiannis provided us with useful advice and information. And then there is Dimitris! He is the gourmet cook, a true renaissance man, completely bilingual, having studied Economics at LSE(!!), but never practicing his subject, who also rights literature and poetry, amongst his many activities! He cooked an amazing mushroom risotto for us, followed by veal with aubergines, which was to die for! He was kind enough to provide us and our Australian friends with the recipe!|La Moara is a real gem and we will surely recommend it to all...
Read moreI just visited from the ( 27-30/10 ) the beautiful village of Nymfaio and decided to stay at the most renowned guest house the " La Moara ". We were 2 families with 2 children and decided to stay in one of the maisonettes the guest house offers. Once we arrived we realised that the maisonette was not part of the original guest house but it is located in a different part of the village with no direct access to the main guest house and it didn't offer any internet connection contrary to the online description. We were told that minimum stay was 3 nights and on the 2nd evening ( Sunday 18:00 ) we were told that the guest house kitchen was closed for the week. Saturday morning the weather changed dramatically and started snowing. When we visited the main guest house ( an old style mansion ) there was not a single fireplace lit in the common areas. Monday afternoon we packed and drove to the guest house to return the key the main guest house only to find locked doors and nobody to farewell us. The houses were not serviced and basic necessities ( replacement garbage bags, garbage collection, replacement toilet paper ) were...
Read moreI really feel the place was very nice and exactly like the picture shown above. It had a lovely fire place and a cozy place to sit around it. It really is big & spread out. Even inside there is a pool table a nice cozy dining room etc. All the places are walking distance and one can brave to take the car around as the roads to the center are really narrow. ||Most of all we really liked our host Loannis Latridis . He was such a charming person despite being a huge 6 and half footer. He gave us a luxury stay and went out of his way to help us with all our needs .Our Chef Dimitri Voulis was amazing .. he dished out the most exquisite greek dishes one better than the other and the presentation ... that was another thing not to mention hes is an amazing painter. If you want to relax soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the calm hillside then this...
