ORFEAS Classic — Hotel in Katerini Municipality

This is simply substandard and not a great choice of hotel. The location in central Katerini is excellent and the staff are lovely and most helpful. But the hotel is long overdue a radical restructuring at every possible level. It is a very dated building, with extremely dark and poorly lit interior spaces. The breakfasts are simply awful, lacking fruit or any decent fresh food - apart from the yoghurt. The bar is dismal and depressing and serves possible the worst wine I have ever tasted - and this is in Greece! The rooms are surreal. Some do not have windows. Mine was dusty and everything malfunctioned. Electric fittings were unstable, there was no chest of drawers, the balcony was awful and decrepit, the TV came on in the middle of the night and could not be turned off and the bathroom had a dreadful and almost unusable shower. But above all was the overpowering and overwhelming smell of rancid and revolting cigarette smoke. It permeates the rooms, corridors and bedding. This place is not worth a penny. First of all, management allows everyone to smoke in the rooms which makes the whole hotel stink. Secondly, half the rooms don'tvhave a real window to the world/street/yard. Yes, you got it right. A room with fake window opening into the chaft. This makes it impossible to air the room. Living there a guest has three options: 1. Suffocate with his/her own co2, 2. Air the room with smoking stench from the corridor, 3. Turn the A/C producing bacterias and urine smell. Poor quality hotel. My room with double bed was verry small (basiclly just a bed and a table) with somewhat strange odor. Clean but poorly equipped bathroom. Interior of the hotel also clean but not particulary pretty looking. AC unit placed in front of the bed (not the smartest choice) was not working (I did not complain, I was there just for one night). Noise outside on the street. Stuff was pollite and helpfull and check in and check out was fast and pleasant. Poor choice of food...
