Where do I start? Kaistro Maistro was unexpectedly horrific. First of all, the breakfast - claimed to be “spectacular” by the receptionist, it was horrible and a had small variety. Something that was extremely inconvenient, was the 40 steps you had to walk up in order to get breakfast. Not ideal considering it is extremely hot, and the last thing you want to is break a sweat in order to get to breakfast. Another thing that put me off completely was the “pond” sitting next to the steps in order to get to breakfast. The stench coming from this pond is unbearable and horrible.
Next, the reception was another nightmare. Not serviced 24 hours, room full of spiders and cobwebs and couches with stains. There is not a single excuse to allow a reception to be like this.
Worst of all, the bedroom suite. Claimed to be built 3 years ago - therefore I was hoping for a modern finish; even though the room provided that, the bathroom did not. The yellow and white tiles in the bathroom made me feel like I was back in the 1960’s and the pink hand towel had chlorine stains on it. There were skid marks of poo on the floor when we arrived. This is NOT welcoming at all. The “private pool” was not so private after all considering you could see the people next door to you in the pool as well. The room was “suited” for a family of four. I felt like I was in a cabin, with cheaply built stairs to a “second” level which was extremely tight and claustrophobic. There was no room to put suitcases and had to be taken out onto the single beds and stove when needed.
Another negative factor was room service: bath/pool towels were given every 3 days which is annoying considering we had our own pool and we’re in it constantly and required the towels - there is no washing machine which doesn’t help this situation.
To be fair, the ONLY two positive factors include the private pool and the location. The location wasn’t perfect although it was around a ten minute drive from the main area. The view of the mountain was somewhat peaceful.
Overall I believe that it is better to spend a little more money for a better hotel rather than a...
Read moreWe left the hotel early because we couldn’t handle staying at the room we were in any longer. We were told we would be in a room on the ground floor- it was a basement room, very crowded and dark. The ventilation of the room was practically non-existent and the room was extremely humid. If the AC wasn’t turned on the humidity would be unbearable. I don’t believe the bathroom was cleaned while we stayed there- there was a hair from one of the previous guests which remained in the bathroom corner until we left. In addition, there were dark spots on some of the room walls and on some of the bathroom tiles which seemed to be mold. I started coughing every time I would stay at the room for a prolonged period of time and the same thing started to happen to my boyfriend after some time. There was also a strange smell in the bathroom, on a part of the mattress of the bed and coming from the cupboards and closets. The bathroom door is also not standard height- both of us kept hitting our heads on the bathroom frame. The kettle in the kitchen didn’t work properly when we had first arrived (which they had fixed after we had complained) and one of the power sockets didn’t work at all (it stayed like that the entirety of our stay). We didn’t have wifi or cellular signal in our room. Some of the staff was nice but multiple people didn’t even greet us after we had greeted them. We had voiced our concerns about staying at the room the morning after we had arrived to the staff yet we had stayed there for the rest of the trip due to lack of availability of the rooms. We had also sent an email to the person that we had booked through, but we had gotten no reply. The good: the location is nice and quiet, it’s near the city center via car, the parking was good. The breakfast was standard. All in all I don’t recommend anybody stay here- at least not at the basement/ground...
Read moreWe went to Kastro Maistro in July 2025 as a family. We had booked a deluxe studio, it is another part of the main building, down the road. From what I understood, the rooms in that part of the hotel are newer. |The deluxe studio is not very big and spacious but if you want to spend your days at the beach instead of in the room, it’s not a big deal. There is no dining table in the studio so if you decide to have a meal in the room you will need to do it on the balcony. |The rooms do need some update especially in terms of toilet fixtures. The water pressure can get a bit tricky in the evening and for me personally this was not a deal-breaker, but when you have two small kids, it can be a bit frustrating. |The staff is very kind and helpful. We asked for another set of towels and batteries for the remote and they delivered immediately. In the first few days it seemed as if they have some issues with the room cleaning services, but when we talked to them, they also settled that. |The breakfast is regular continental buffet, but they offer they same meals every day, so it does get boring when you are there for ten days. |Air conditioning worked seamlessly, which is very important. |The pool is not very big, but it is very clean and the water is very warm. |The hotel is perched on a hill and it offers great views from the pool and restaurant, it has a lot of greenery and the atmosphere is very pleasant. |However, they do need to work on updating the hotel and facilities as a whole should they want to continue receiving good reviews. |I would definitely recommend it to people who are not too picky. |Had...
