Read moreUsually when I have bad experience, I just don't say anything, but I'll make an exception for this.
We came for breakfast and there were 2 employees that looked like they had zero motivation to serve us or even be there.
We were alone in the restaurant but that was fine because we were early. We ordered a special omelet and toast with avocado and halloumi.
The halloumi looked like it was made on a dirty grill / dirty pan and both pieces were covered with black ash. The whole dish looked really bad in total to be honest. Two dry caps of bread that were hard and tasteless.
When I told the waiter about it he said he would "check it", went to the bar talked to the guy there. Never came back. Walked past us 2 times, didn't say a word.
By then we were already quite done with the place and I left half my omelet as well cause it tasted burned and not good either.
After 15 minutes of just sitting there, not knowing if they bring something new or were ever going to get back to us about it, I was done.
I paid the bill, they didn't say a word. They didn't ask us how the food was or anything. Only question was "cash or card" with a full bill.
We travel around the world, been to hundreds if not thousands of restaurants. Never had I had an experience like this.
I will never go back there and I don't recommend this place to anyway...

The friendly owner still spends time with the diners and is happy to discuss the menu without being at all pushy.
We both fancied fresh fish and there were several options available to us. We settled on a large (around 800 g) Red Sea Bream as a sharing platter. (see photo). It was perfectly grilled, cooked through, but tender and moist throughout with a wonderful flavour. It was served with slices of seasonal vegetables also perfectly grilled. We ordered a side of rice. It's was a feast, with plenty for two diners. Fish is generally priced by weight and is more expensive than traditional Greek dishes. But, if well prepared, as ours was, is well worth the extra cost.
June 2023 Great sea-front bar/restaurant. We did not realise that this venue was more than a snack bar until given the heads-up by a hotel guest, but it has a decent menu and serves excellent food. We shared the Halloumi salad and fried calamari (pictured) both of which were first rate. The local wine is expensive at E25 a bottle, otherwise Varkó Summer Bar offers good value. The owner has installed a novel rising plate-glass wind break system which does a fine job without obscuring the sea view; a nice touch. Will...
