I booked and fully paid for accommodation at this hotel a full month before check-in.||Fortunately i travelled by car and arrived at Plakias earlier in the day than planned. It was only then that i obtained internet connection, read my e-mails and learned that Labyrinth studios had cancelled my booking and had been unsuccessful in finding alternate accommodation for me and my partner. The e-mail had been sent less than 48 hours prior to my checkin. Fortunately i had better successthan the Labyrinth studios and was able to immediately find alternate accommodation.||||I am aware how the hotel industry work in Britain in that if the accommodation is over booked they find you alternative accommodation of an equal or a superior standard at no extra expense to yourself. The Labyrinth however cancelled our pre-paid booking with little notice without finding anything else when there was suitable alternate accommodation available. Why did they choose to bump our booking ? Perhaps it was because i had made a non-refundable fully paid booking which was cheaper than a deposit only 48 hour cancellation booking.||||Fortunately we are a fit retired couple with no disabilities who arrived early in the afternoon at Plakias with the use of a hired a car otherwise we could of been left stranded late at night in Plakias with a full set of luggage but no accommodation.||||I appreciate that hotels do overbook but whether they have taken the full amount for the booking or not it is there responsibility to ensure that the booking is honoured even if the hotel has to supplement the price of the alternate accommodation.||||Having worked away from home for over 15 years staying in numerous hotels and B & B's it is the first time i have experienced a last minute cancellation with no alternative being provided.||||I don't know whether it is common for this hotel to overbook but they obviously don't make any effort to ensure that an alternate...
Read moreWe have just returned from a wonderful 11 days holiday at the Labyrinth Studios near Plakias in Crete. From the moment we arrived we knew that we would be well looked after. Katarina and Fotis were wonderful hosts, with lots of advice about where to eat and where to go. We arrived late at night and found some home made cake in the room, and this happened twice more during our stay, along with some raki and home made olive paste. The room itself was clean with regular changes of bed linen and towels. There is a very nice pool are with sun beds, wicker umbrellas and the pool itself was cleaned daily. The nearest shop and taverna were about 1 km away on the road to the well kept sandy beach of Damnoni. Part of the journey is along the main road but most of the journey is along a newly laid path which is lit at night by streetlights. The Cretan Market was open all day every day for the basics of bread and milk along with a great selection of Cretan goodies. Next door is the family run Mithos Taverna, with a great selection of fish caught by the owners as well as Mama’s home cooked specials. At the beach itself there are two snack bars and two tavernas which were also very good. But the final word has to go to Katarina and Fotis for their warm welcome and lovely...
