Taverna Violakis 1967 — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Vasileios

Small details that make ALL the difference: Asked if we wanted bread with out order (to charge it).. we said no, got bread free of charge anyways. Blatantly a scam considering the question, the answer and the result. Trying to trick you into saying yes, so they can charge for it.

No napkins with the bread, so you end up with olive oil all over and no means to clean yourself.

..and the menu. Three columns for Greek, English and German. No visual separation (like a line), no description (is it served with rice? Who knows?! Is it served with potatoes? Who knows? Is it served and you have to order rice/potatoes separately? WHO KNOWS?) - I honestly DO NOT want to ask the waiter by the time I'm ready to order, just to have a conversation about it. When I'm ready to order, I want to be able to say what I want, and be done with it. Also, the font is all the same (titles slightly bigger size, not in bold, and blends too well with the items) so it all becomes a blur. Greek is left aligned, English is centered and German is aligned to the right. Extremely heavy on the eyes... almost didn't want to orde anything due to the layout of the menu alone. Read three items in 20 minutes because I could not focus on the fact that it was so annoying.

The food however? ..GREAT lamb! Some of the best I've had in Crete so far(!) ..So considering the above, it's a shame, as it puts this restaurant to shame - and I almost both; didn't even order, and almost walked out of the restaurant. Without any good reason.. the quality of the food is what matters in the end - and scammy behavior about bread or a frustrating menu, sre not GOOD reasons, as they should not exist to begin with!

Again, I was really satisfied with the food, and I also would eat here again (now that I know what to order), and even recommend the place - though as a person that pay this amount of attention to detail, it was also a really frustrating experience - when it didn't have to be. During our recent trip to Crete, we had the pleasure of dining at Taverna Violakis 1967, and it turned out to be one of the culinary highlights of our stay. The atmosphere was cozy and authentically Greek, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The Horta was fresh and perfectly seasoned – simple, yet so flavorful. The Dakos was a fantastic start to the meal, bursting with the taste of ripe tomatoes, crisp rusks, and creamy feta. The Saganaki was golden and crispy on the outside, with a rich, melty center – truly a comfort food classic done right.

The star of the evening, however, was the Pork Chop. It was grilled to perfection – juicy, tender, and so full of flavor that I literally found myself gnawing on the bone because I didn’t want to miss a single bite. It was honestly one of the best pork dishes I’ve ever had.

Taverna Violakis 1967 offers not only fantastic food, but also a genuine, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience authentic Greek cuisine made with love...

Da gehe ich bestimmt nich wieder hin🛑🛑‼️‼️‼️Das Essen kann ich nicht bewerten, da wir es nicht mehr probiert haben, aber der Service (Kellner) war eine Katastrophe🚨🆘

Ich war mit meinem Freund dort. Wir hatten den ganzen Tag am Strand verbracht und wollten abends noch etwas essen, bevor wir nach Hause gehen. Ich trug einen Badeanzug, ein darübergezogenes, bedeckendes Oberteil und ein längeres XL-Hemd mit langen Ärmeln.

Am Eingang wurden wir vom Kellner begrüßt und haben uns einen Tisch ausgesucht. Daraufhin fragte er mich, ob ich noch etwas zum Überziehen hätte. Leider hatte ich nichts dabei. Er stellte die Frage jedoch in einer arroganten und lauten Weise, sodass die Menschen auf der Terrasse anfingen, uns anzustarren. Das war schon ziemlich peinlich, aber wir wurden trotzdem zum Tisch geführt.

Das fand ich noch nicht so schlimm. Doch als wir am Tisch saßen und nachfragten, was das Problem sei, gab uns der Kellner auf sehr unfreundliche und arrogante Weise die Antwort: „Es ist ein Restaurant!“ Dabei saßen den ganzen Tag über Menschen in Bikinis auf der Terrasse.

Nach diesem Kommentar wollte ich nicht länger bleiben und wir beschlossen zu gehen. Wir sprachen den Kellner darauf an und sagten ihm, dass sein Verhalten extrem unprofessionell war, da auch andere Menschen den ganzen Tag in Badesachen dort saßen. Eine halbe Stunde zuvor bestand noch etwa 70 % der Gäste aus Menschen in Badekleidung, und plötzlich sollte das ein Problem sein. Der Kellner reagierte darauf nur mit Streitlust und Arroganz. Alle Gäste in der Nähe beobachteten uns, doch eine wirkliche Antwort haben wir nicht bekommen. Schließlich sagte er noch: „Für Sie mag es in Ordnung sein, in Badesachen hier zu essen, aber für andere vielleicht nicht. Vielleicht sind Sie für andere ein Problem.“

Und das in einem Lokal, das sich nur wenige Meter vom Strand entfernt befindet, wo Menschen sogar nackt baden, obwohl es kein offizieller FKK-Strand ist. Das ist doch absurd.

Erstens, das Lokal liegt nur zwei Meter vom Strand entfernt, wo den ganzen Tag Menschen baden. Es ist kein gehobenes Meeresrestaurant oder etwas Vergleichbares.

Zweitens, die Terrasse ist den ganzen Tag über voll mit Menschen in Badesachen und Bikinis.

Drittens, ich würde es nicht einmal als „Restaurant“ bezeichnen. Für mich ist ein Restaurant ein Ort mit netten Kellnern, die Anzug oder zumindest ein ordentliches Poloshirt tragen, und nicht normale Straßenkleidung. Das Lokal selbst ist kein richtiges „Restaurant“, eher eine Strandterrasse, die, wie gesagt, immer voller Menschen in Badeanzügen ist. Es ist definitiv kein schickes Meeresrestaurant oder ähnliches.

Also, wenn man in dieser Taverne am Strand essen möchte und von ein bis zwei Stunden entfernt kommt, ohne andere Kleidung außer Badesachen, muss man erst nach Hause fahren, um sich schick zu machen🆘, denn es ist ein „Restaurant“. (Nur ein kleiner Tipp für...
