Royal Sun — Hotel in Municipality of Chania

I recently stayed at Royal Sun for a week, and I must say, this hotel far exceeded my expectations. Though rated as a 3-star establishment, it truly deserves 4-star plus recognition for its exceptional service, amenities, and overall experience.

From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, and every interaction with the staff was met with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. They were incredibly attentive and always ready to assist with any request.

The room was impeccably clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The attention to detail was evident, with thoughtful touches such as complimentary bottled water, high-quality toiletries. The room also featured modern amenities, including a flat-screen TV and free high-speed Wi-Fi.

The hotel's amenities rival those of higher-rated establishments. The on-site restaurant served delicious, well-prepared meals with a diverse menu catering to various tastes. The breakfast buffet was particularly impressive, offering a wide selection of fresh and tasty options. Beautiful views and great amenities!!!Staff members are courteous and attentive to personal details.I was provided information/prices regarding excursions prior to arrival. My single view sea room was pure perfection!The view is beautiful both day/night. The room was furnished with modern amenities and the beds are very comfortable .Noise levels are minimal to slightly noticeable.The shower is small but not too uncomfortable .

The breakfast buffet has a variety of hot/cold items fruit,cheese,deli,pastries,meat,eggs ,etc, all items are fresh and flavorful!There are also a wide range of hot/cold beverages available as well.Restaurant staff members are very pleasant and accommodating.The shuttle service is a huge bonus as well and is very convenient for dining/shopping.

I chose to arrange a tour to the beach and visit a nearby beach resort but a pool is located on-site as well.

The self service laundry is also convenient for cleaning attire (pods are 1 euro,cash only ).Housekeeping staff were very courteous when passing and or providing service.A front desk attendant also provided assistance with a room issue at 6am with no hesitatation.He also made sure to actually greet me by name each time in passing which made the hotel feel much more like home away from home.

Reception at check in was rude and annoyed before I even approached, so you can imagine the disappointment I experienced during that encounter. The front desk staff rotated the following day and during checkout and they were professional and pleasant to deal with. My initial room had mold, the second and third rooms provided had the same issues but one was recently painted over. Since they refused a refund I endured. My room was cleaned daily but the towels provided after day two needs to be retired, might be a good idea to bring your own towels. Other than being cleaned the rooms are poorly maintained, after the initial superficial appearance you start to notice wall papers coming off and such. The rooms are not soundproof, all the conversions being had on the other rooms could be heard in my room, even a door opening had me feeling like it was being opened in my room. They have a shuttle service to city center which could be a plus, just be sure to confirm pick up and drop offs. The airport shuttle is on request and at an additional charge. The restaurant on the third floor has gorgeous views and the food is good. I liked the breakfast selections even though it was redundant. There is self parking on the property. The gym is dated and was in disarray the few times I tried to use it. Clearly not being cleaned as frequently as it should. Please see attached pictures...
