An hour's drive from Chania, or two and a half from Herakleion, Maria Villas is just 20 minutes from Kissamos in the hills of voulgora. 8 self-catering apartments cater for groups of 2 to 6. For us, a family of 3, the location was perfect. One hour to the beautiful beach of Elafonissi passing through stunning scenery dotted with tavernas and olive groves in one direction, and one hour to the stunning harbour city of Chania in the other direction. Two local tavernas provide traditional food day and night and the local villages have well stocked supermarkets for your self-catering essentials. The pool has fantastic views of the valley below and the sea at Kissamos can be seen in the distance. There's a tranquility about this place, it's quiet, relaxed and beautiful. We opted for the breakfast package which is served from 9 to 11am. Ommlete, local sausage, fruit, cakes, yoghurt, coffee, ham, tomatoes, feta, olives, bread and coffee all bought to the table by the pool by the lovely Dimitra. What a beautiful person she is, always smiling and happy to help, she certainly made our stay at Maria Villas one we will never forget. Recommendations for your stay. *Rent a car. *Breakfast by the pool. *A day in Chania old town and harbour *Balos beach - comes with advisory in other reviews. *Elafonissi Beach and Agia Sofia caves. * A meal at one of the two local tavernas. *Sunset on your private patio.

We stayed here for one week and greatly enjoyed it. Upon arrival we were stunned by the beautiful view of the mountains, the blue pool and our spacious and clean house. In the mornings we had breakfast by the pool. It was the best breakfast we have ever gotten at a Hotel. We were served fluffy homemade bread, fresh fruit, salad, cake, eggs and even more! We also give special thanks to Dimitra who hosted us. She was very kind and welcoming. If we needed help with anything she was there for us. All in all we can only recommend this great location 🇬🇷

Best accommodation experience in Crete. Amazing view from the pool and the terrasse. The breakfast was also amazing and delicious. How not to mention Dimitra and the owner who take care of everything and make your life easier! Do not waste your time in Kissamos. The city itself has no interest except to visit Balos island. Thanks!

The general appearance of the place is pleasant, there is ample parking, a nice pool with an adjacent bar-breakfast area. The view is stunning and the isolated location can be interesting, to get out of the usual big resorts or hotels near the sea. The appearance of our villa was nice, very rustic. ||Having booked a villa that was supposed to be for a max of 4 people, I found the bathroom to be particularly small, with no real shower but with a tub to which a panel (broken) was addedto provide the necessary protection to take a shower. Towels were very old, the safebox didn't have a key (therefore it was useless), and there wasn't even a full-length mirror, only the small one in the bathroom, poorly illuminated. Our residence had an open space with entrance-kitchen-living room. In the living area instead of the ceiling there is a plexiglass that allows sunlight to enter, and, if this is pleasant during the day, it creates problems at night, as the sleeping area is adjacent and, at the first lights of dawn can be difficult to sleep. Fortunately, there was another bed on a mezzanine floor. This place is lacking in taste, some furniture is very beautiful, but the style and charm gets lost in the details (the synthetic bedspreads are horribly kitsch). ||No receipt at the bar for a tea and a coffee (5.20 euros), no receipt for the payment of the room and payment only in cash! We found this very strange and shady, if not illegal, like the fact that they have kept our passport for the whole stay. ||Breakfast is abundant but nothing special, all packaged stuff, apart from the eggs, the sausage and the omnipresent Greek salad. The bread on the second day was old. There is no brochure in the room, no information on breakfast timing, no information on how to connect to the wi-fi etc. Yet it wouldn't take much to make it all easier for customers. The sun beds around the pool should be replaced, they are literally shabby and old. The general impression is that it is a decadent place that with a little effort could come back to shine. Definitely not a 4...
