I was in Salonica in the last week of May. What a blast! This is a gorgeous, vibrant city, I am just sad it has taken me so long to visit. I was drawn to the port area (which of course is not as posh as other areas) because of its proximity to the city without the noise of a city that never sleeps (dinner at 3am!). The Met is the big hotel in the area, a nice but overpriced hotel. Right behind it, tucked away, inconspicouly, lies the real gem, Limani Luxury. I had a medium expectation of the quality of this place. However, it was clean and opulent by Greek standards, but also very affordable and comfortable by western standards. ||||The rooms were spacious, the bathrooms, albeit tiny, very nice, clean and very functional. ||||The thing that made our stay though very memorable was the people who were so kind, so accommodating, prepared to help us in any way possible, even organising car rental, and late hours for us during a national public holiday! They did that, not begrudingly, but with genuine happiness, true "philoxenia". ||||Don't be fooled by the impersonal facade of the Met, the true heart of the port district lies in the smiles of Kiki, Demi and Nick! Nothing was too much for them and we now have lifelong friends in them. ||||I shall return and I hope they can accommodate me again. I recommend the Limani without hesitation. Just bring a mosquito repellant though! Thessaloniki is full of them, but at least, they do not carry anything serious!||||Wonderful visit and great experience at a bargain...
Read moreWonderful hotel! Room was comfortable, clean and modern, great shower, large balcony, working fridge, good wifi and cell phone signal. Staff were very friendly and helpful, they had great knowledge of the area and spoke excellent English. Breakfast was basic and tea was not available at this hotel to my knowledge (but the rooms have a kettle + mugs so you can bring your own tea bags), but it was cheap and substantial. Had several issues with the door getting stuck and not opening, hopefully they've been able to fix this issue since. The area looks unsafe but personally I had no issues when walking outside alone during the day time, no one approached me. On a Sunday, the nearest cafe/restaurant that is open to get lunch/dinner that I found is a 20-25 minute walk away, but there are plenty of options on efood to have a delivery to the hotel. City centre is a long walk but a taxi there is only 6-8 euros, or there is a regular bus- the hotel staff are willing to explain how to use the buses if you are not familiar...
Read moreThessaloniki is an amazing city, and the experience at Limani Apartments was awesome. Prices was good. The local area looks run down and first glance, but when you stay there, you realise it is in a nice location near the port, convenient to catch a 5 minute taxi ride to the city centre for as little as 4 euro. The rooms are spacious enough and comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly, were fluent in English and Italian, as well as Greek obviously. They were happy to call around to find us a good deal for a rental car, which as a non-Greek speaker was extremely helpful. They were willing to store our luggage while we were away at Mt Athos (so we technically weren't guests of the hotel). They also helped with organising a taxi ride through friends of theirs at 5am for the trip to Mt Athos at a reasonable price. I will definitely stay there again when I'm in...
