We booked our stay based on the generally very favourable reviews posted on Tripadvisor. ||Unfortunately, we had a awful job finding the place mainly due to our Satnav being unable to locate the hotel amid the warren of narrow streets in this typical Greek town – no fault of the hotel! The building is a splendid old edifice but admittedly is in need of some ‘tlc’. The décor inside is suitably old and rustic in style, very appealing. Nevertheless, there is a lift. ||We had booked the Superior Suite which we were led to believe had a bathtub and a small balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. Unfortunately, the latter was not the case – balconies were only to be found attached to smaller rooms. This disappointment led to our first unpleasant exchange with the staff, as I felt we had been deceived. Apart from that the room was lovely – but the damage had been done, so to speak. ||The hotel has a reputation for an excellent restaurant, which is partly why we booked it. However, upon arrival we were told it was shut! We were informed this was because the chef had been involved in a car accident. That being the case shouldn’t the hotel have warned us in advance (but of course they would have potentially risked our cancellation by doing so)? Suffice to say Naoussa is not the most salubrious place to locate a good restaurant at night. ||In contrast the breakfast served the following morning was quite outstanding both in quality and quantity with a wide range of choices of both hot and cold dishes brought to the table. It almost made us feel guilty as by that point we had decided to ‘bug out’ and not linger there any longer. This was to be the last stop on our summer holiday and it had frankly turned into a disaster.||Insult was then turned into further injury. Having read an earlier review regarding how a guest had been overcharged we were already somewhat wary of this hotel (despite reassurances by other reviewers). Our suspicions were raised further when a couple of months before our stay, the hotel charged our credit card without notification. We wrote asking for an explanation but received no reply. ||After all these troubles we left straight after breakfast, wanting nothing further to do with the place. But, you would not believe it, a short time after returning home we found they had charged our credit card a second time. Outrageous behaviour! Needless to say all our communications with this hotel were ignored. To cut a long story short we managed to get the money back through our credit card provider, but that obviously is not the point. As a business this hotel is a disgrace.||Finally, the weird thing is that the elderly couple that ostensibly run the place seem to be the most friendly and charming people you could hope to meet…The scenario definitely did not add up! So be sure to check any payments to this hotel.||Such a wasteful...
Read moreMe and my husband stayed in Palea Poli Hotel in Jan 3rd 2024 for 3 nights. I made online reservation and submitted my credit card details as required. My card wasn’t charged prior arrival and upon check out we paid our say in full (accommodation and F&B). A week later my card is charged with 500 euro. I emailed immediately the hotel to ask what that is for. No response. I called and they explained that this is a mistake and within few days the amount will be refunded in my card. I week later the money is not refunded and no email response. On the third week they asked for my bank account, so they refund the money there. Couple of more weeks passed and still nothing. Finally, a month later on Feb 5th, they sent a document confirming the overcharge is returned. To my account. Well, apparently, they sent a fake document. 15 days later the money is still not returned, they do not answer our emails and when we try to call they hung up. Also during the whole process not a single apology for the inconvenience caused. Such a disappointment to ruin your hotel reputation for 500 euros and treat your clients with such an unprofessional behavior! The hotel overall is nothing like the pictures – beautiful authentic building but quite worn furnitures, cleaning that is below the minimum for a boutique hotel and restaurant that is just pretentious with overpriced and boring dishes. Mostly fried, a-la minute food, very...
