At last we got to Villa Portokalia, held up by Covid and lock downs, we finally arrived in early June. As soon as we got out of our hire car, on arrival at the villa, we knew we were in for a real treat. The villa and the pool, in the dying soft eveing light, were a spectacle, it was like we had arrived at paradise. We quickly unpacked and headed for the local taverna, Maklithari Taverna, just a 5min strool through the village. It was now 10pm and we sat drinking cold beer and eating the most exciting food until midnight. The village, Maklithari, has everything within walking distance, a couple of small supermarkets, a bakery, and two or three tavernas. The villa is perfectly placed to investigate the rest of the Island and you dont have to travel far to find perfect beaches and coves with water as blue and clear as anything I have ever seen. I was there with my wife two daughters and one boyfriend, five adults in total. The layout of the villa worked perfectly for us and was extremley well equiped. There were four or five different sun terraces which all seemed to capture the suns rays right through the day, and the planting around the villa was a sight to be seen. I have included some picturs of the flowers from around the villa. There were many high points to this holiday but those that deserve a special mention are: such a beautiful villa, the friendlyness of the people of Kefalonia, the crystal clear waters, great beaches, excellent food and wine, prices that will surprise you (in a good way) and the ability of Kefalonia to totally relax and rejeuvinate body and soul. Would we go there again, well what do you think!!

We had a wonderfully relaxing week in this spotless and high spec villa with beautiful landscaping. Teenagers loved the pool (deeper and bigger than most) and we loved the view and all the different places we could sit and relax (with proper shade). The owners and Sophia the property manager were exactly what you want - super responsive but also inobtrusive. It is in a quiet village which we were happy with as we used it as a base to visit Assos (20mins) fiskardo (40 mins) Myrtos (10 mins) and Divarata for different food options. We combined it with a week in Agia efimia (10 mins) a lovely fishing village / boating harbour with restaurants and bars - just big enough for there to be atmosphere in the evening but not too over developed. There are three restaurants within walking distance of the villa, a butcher (fab sausages) and a bakery and super market on way out of village to Agia efimia.

My favourite place to stay. Magnificent, spacious, beautifully designed, relaxing villa with a pool to die for. Fully landscaped exterior, beautifully planted with flowers and shrubs from around the Island, providing the colours, sights and sounds everywhere you look. Large spacious bedrooms with well appointed bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ area. Makriotika is a typically greek hill village with 3 tavernas within walking distance. Easy drive to Aghia Effimia with its wide selection of harbourside restaurants and shops. Great location to access the entire Island with its central location. Car required for the best experience.

We've been lucky enough to stay in some amazing places around the world and I struggle to find anything that I would change with Villa Portokalia.

The house is stunning, the views are amazing regardless of which of the many, many spots you decide to relax. All of the equipment is top end, the bathrooms are 5 *, the beds are as good as you would have at home, the kitchen is well stocked with the stuff you need to have a fabulous holiday, the taverna up the road is so proud about what they do that we went there 6 times over 2 weeks for dinner and multiple times for a cold one at lunch time ... the views up there are equally amazing.

The local village/port has all you would want for your perfect holiday - even with a small beach where all the senior ladies flock to in the morning, leave their sticks on the pebbles, don their colourful hats and cools shades and bob about gossiping and laughing away .. a good place to practice your greek :)

Ginny, Justin and Sophia could not have more helpful and when one small issue occurred they were on it straight away....

We will be back and...

Second time of staying here and wanted to bring my family to enjoy this most amazing Villa I have ever stayed in too! Ginny & Justin have literally thought of everything, it’s absolutely perfect! If you are lucky enough to have the main bedroom, nothing quite prepare’s for the view you will wake up to every morning, it’s breathtaking and there are so many wonderful things about the Villa with all its lovely little areas to rest & relax and that pool is literally to die for, I did not want to come home! The Villa is perfectly situated in that it’s not too far to get to lovely little taverns serving the most amazing food and nothing is to far away in a car about 10/15 minute journey for the beach or restaurants, supermarkets if you want to cook at home or visit the fabulous fishing bay which is in abundance of restaurants & cafe’s, you are quite literally spoilt for choice & the locals are so friendly. I can’t wait to go back one day! Can’t recommend it...
