8 years ago me, my husband and my sister's family spent 2 unforgettable weeks in Kefalonia, Makriotika. Dinners at Mahlitari Tavern and the wonderful family of the owner, who together with his little son, served all the customers with a smile, will remain part of the wonderful memories, preserved forever in our hearts. The food was superb, the service impeccable. There I ate the most delicious fried zucchini and the best goat in the oven. This summer we are back in Kefalonia with my husband and driven by memories of an amazing meal at Mahlitari Tavern we visited last night. Huge huge mistake! The place is the same, but everything else has changed for the worse, unfortunately. The owners are completely different, mediocre food, careless attitude, repeatedly inflated prices. Of course, I am aware that everything changes, but for us it was a big disappointment. If you know the place from years ago, let me warn you that this is not the same place anymore. ...

Authentic Greek Hospitality and Incredible Food!

This taverna is a true gem! We enjoyed an amazing meal filled with traditional Greek dishes, all of them incredibly tasty and full of authentic flavor. From the first bite, you could tell the ingredients were fresh and everything was cooked with love and care.

The portions were huge, so come hungry! Every dish was generous and perfect for sharing. Whether it was moussaka, souvlaki, or the homemade tzatziki, everything was just delicious.

The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of the family. He even took time to explain some of the dishes and offer local tips. That kind of hospitality is rare and truly appreciated.

The setting was warm and traditional, just what you’d hope for in a Greek taverna. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit!

This restaurant offered a truly memorable experience, set in a lovely location overlooking the mountains and bay—a perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal. The food was excellent, full of flavour and beautifully presented. But the real highlight was our 13-year-old waiter, who stole the show with his flawless English, polite manner, and natural charm. He was attentive, hard-working, and made every guest feel genuinely looked after. His enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear he took great pride in his work. One of my favourite touches?
