This September 2021, my wife and I decided to explore one of the last areas of Greece we have not been to. If you have not traveled Greek mountain roads; it is not for the faint of heart. If you are not very proficient with manual transmissions I highly recommend staying down in the valley or near the coast. The trip to the 12 Month Resort hotel was as expected; with the road going up the mountain, becoming very narrow. We were looking for an out of the way resort where we could relax and take advantage of the resort’s services. We paid for an upgraded suite with an ocean view. The room had a musty smell to it so we opened all the windows to air the place out. The views were not as advertised, mostly blocked by trees and the only decent view was from a very small side outside area. We also noticed that aside from the small kitchen chairs and bed there was no other furniture in the room. There were two long meter wide built-in benches in the living area with cushions and pillows. This is where that musty smell was coming from. We moved the cushions to try to air them out and a bunch of various bugs sped away once their hiding spot was revealed. It was around 7pm when we arrived at the 12 Month restaurant. The waitress handed us two old dirty snack menus, food stained and one torn. We asked for the Ala carte menu but the waitress said they don’t open up till 8pm and that we would have to order from the “Snack” menu if we wanted food. The snack menu is basically a burger and pizza menu. We did not want this. We decided to order a drink and figure out our next move. Waitress had trouble understanding the hot tea order and my wife is Greek born and educated. We finished and my wife had to go looking for the waitress to pay. I guess it was staff break time because on our way out we found the staff around the corner drinking coffee and smoking. So, we paid and decided to head back down to the village to get something to eat. We found a restaurant and had to wait to be seated. No problem, about ten minutes later we were seated and had a nice meal. The waiter there said that they get a lot of customers from the 12 Month hotel because of the restaurant’s hours. We went back to our hotel room and killed 3 more bugs. Shut the windows because of the cold mountain air. We needed an extra blanket so we started to look through the closets and found an extra pillow and mattress pad. I tried the bed only to find out that it was really short. It was wide enough for two people but it was very short. I am about 2 meters tall (6 feet) and from the middle of calf to my feet were hanging off the bed. The only way we could fit on the bed is if we slept diagonally. (Corner to Corner) It was late and we decided to make the best of it. Woke up at 0600 and looked to see if there was any coffee in the room. Most hotels have some sort of self-service coffee in the room; nothing. Went back to room and waited for restaurant to open. Breakfast was at 0800. Went in at 0815 and most of the cold items were set out and half of the hot items were...
Read moreWe enjoyed 3 nights at this hotel at the end of September 2024. Good location with some fabulous beaches nearby. The hotel recommended Milopotamus, which was charming. But we preferred Plaka at Agios Ioannis, where you can drive almost down to the beach and park in the hotel car park.||The hotel itself was comfortable, especially the bed, but sadly there were too many negatives for us, and we would not recommend this hotel:||1) the staff were universally charming, but apart from the Albanian maintenance man, seemed to confuse this with customer service. The latter was sadly not what we expected for a 5 star resort. For example there were no cushions on our outside furniture, which were uncomfortable. We asked for some, but it did not appear. Also we had real difficulty with getting the hot water in the basin to work because the tap was very modern and over complicated. It also worked in a different way to the shower tap. It took us the best part of the day to get this explained to us, with one receptionist getting a bit irritated when we kept complaining, although she herself could not get it to work. The Albanian maintenance man was doing repointing on the wall outside our room. We were woken every morning by the chip chip of his hammer.|2) breakfast was very poor. Over stewed filter coffee which tasted like dish water, with Cappucino or Americano charged extra and not very good. Very little choice of Fresh Fruit. Eggs poorly cooked and ultra-processed bacon, sausage, cold meats and cheese. Stale bread.|3) the gym equipment was tired and in our view the weight machines were dangerous, with very loose wires.|4) although we had a junior suite, with separate sitting area, there was no TV in that area, you had to lie in/on bed.|5) the toilet was right next to the bed, in line with the head of the person sleeping on...
Read moreThe hotel in general looks OK. Many hotels that we have been to and have been built using materials that are supposed to show luxury have deteriorated a bit over the years. So has this hotel and some parts might need more maintenance. This nothing serious.||We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist and a nice person showed us our room. The man at the breakfast buffet was also friendly. This is unfortunately already all good experience we have made with the hotel's service staff. Although using the spa was included, we couldn't use it since we have been told it is already full. There was no whatsoever convenient solution offered which is not what a hotel that calls itself "luxury" should be. The person working the hotel bar was gone for a substantial amount of time and we had to wait quite a long time for them to return. When we returned from dinner, we entered the hotel and a staff member came through a door that we also needed to pass. There was no "good evening" and she just let the door slam directly in front of us.||I have the impression that some of the people don't seem to be really happy working there and that it might be up to the management to improve the conditions for the staff and train them appropriately. I never have a problem with small things in hotels not being perfect. I am also fine if some services are not available and there is some sort of compensation or at least a friendly explanation offered. But hospitality is the essence of every hotel and we only felt this to a rather...
