First of all let me start with the positives. Location is lovely, an oasis especially in the summer heat. The meat in which this restaurant suggests it specialises in, is of good quality and tasty, cooked well as well. A reminder that this restaurant is based in a village and not in a big city, therefore it is immediately elevated from its direct competitors just on the fact that is offers clarity over their meat sourcing. The waiters are very friendly, polite and eager to accommodate. I have read about the scarcity of menus on other comments, and it is agreed that this needs to be rectified, even if you are fully booked you need to provide menus for every guest, this is not an excuse, you just need to make more menus. We were provided with two menus for 6 people. The biggest let down for me was their wine offering, a large wine list perhaps larger than the restaurant needs and/or too big to handle. Wine needs to be stored in proper and stable conditions. We ordered a lovely red, a 2020 Xinomavro from Dalamara, personally one of my favourite wines. The wine arrived and the bottle was very warm, alarming, since this indicates poor storing conditions. No surprise the wine was gone, there was no taste to indicate Xinomavro’s bold characteristics such as the red berries, savoury aromas and well integrated tannins. However, these things can happen, wines do go off and it’s not as rare as some people think. What was sticking to me, was the very defensive stance of who I assume is the owner, who asked us wether we have drunk this wine before (politely insinuated we don’t know what we are talking about) and that he and someone from the staff thinks the wine is absolutely fine. We politely returned the wine without drinking it at all as obviously it was undeniably gone off. We ordered a white wine to go with our meat dishes as we assumed white wines will be chilled and kept in the fridge, therefore a safe choice. We were right, a nice full body Chardonnay was the way to go. A disappointing stance from a restaurant that has clearly a lot to learn at least on the wine front, and there is no shame in sometimes admitting and correcting a mistake. We were charged for the bottle we returned which I find unprofessional to say the least, perhaps an ex restaurant owner and sommelier like myself doesn’t know enough to come and dine with friends at a local restaurant in a small village in Pilion, maybe my palette is not...
Read moreBig disappointment We arrived based on the recommendations on the net. We ordered starters which were good. The mains dishes were bad. Tibbon steak arrived wal dun even though we asked for medium. Two burgers we asked for medium arrived dry and inedible and a pasta dish turned out to be sliced steak. Three dishes were returned to the kitchen. Two replacements were ok and one was bad and not really edible. The joke at the end was a watermelon at the expense of the house that was rotten. If it weren't for the starters, they would deserve a zero score. We paid double what you pay in traditional taverns, which increased the frustration. Stay away
I read the restaurant's response and I admit that I am amazed. The waiter saw the burgers and clearly said that he saw that they were not medium. Regarding the pasta dish - it was clearly stated that this was a misunderstanding by the first waiter, who probably did not know the menu. We went to a restaurant that is not a Greek tavern on purpose, in order to diversify the food after several days in Greece, and we knew very well that we would not get "classic" Greek dishes. We did not expect to receive dishes that we did not order or dishes that could not be eaten. It is very unfortunate to read a response that is not true, and only emphasizes our bad feeling regarding...
Read moreDipnosofistis offers a dining experience very different from what you would expect to find in a typical Greek restaurant. Therefore, if you're searching for a greek taverna, that's not the place. They don't do greek salad, souvlaki, saganaki and so on. Which is great because there are lots of places in Pelion doing that with great results. Instead you will find at Dipnosofistis a european culinary experience, a small food menu but rich in dishes with distinct flavours, refined and created by a talented chef. The food menu is accompanied by a very well curated wine list and a number of delicious cocktails. I simply loved the Lavender Bee's knees cocktail and the Amaretto Sour. The service was top notch: warm, professional and fast. About the place itself I can only use the word magical. Just imagine a combination of beautiful design, forrest, water sound and a perfect playlist. No wonder the place is running for 32 years already. The family that owns Dipnosofistis also runs Arnica Montana Hotel, another gem in the area. As an advice I would recommend making a...
