Hostal el calvario — Hotel in Cobán

Incredible place, branded new few months ago by a young couple, nice and clean double bed room with best mattress and pillows I found in already 6 months travelling in Mexico/central America Nice space to chill with TV, Netflix and cozy sofa and amazing view of the mountains around the city, easy to meet other travellers or just chill with the wifi. Beers and other awesome cocktails are served by Jimmy and Michelle, branded with fantastic tips for where to go in Guatemala and Alta Verapaz area,I even went for diner with then to the best 'churrasco' place for only 10 Q! Both of them are really open minded and educated people, getting a trustful view of the vision of the country. It was really tough to leave a place like that! Thanks...

We did not have a good experience. When we got in no one even showed us our room/where the bathrooms were. They just handed us a key and we had to figure it out.

The room was CLAUSTROPHOBIC. No fans and no real openable window (the only one was hard to open and gave onto the living area). We had only a mattress cover and a very old/not good looking blanket. We had to go ask for a sheet to cover ourselves.

The toilets barely flush… and the water in the shower was coming out of a cut pipe.

The only nice thing is the terrace with plants and tables. Not...

This hostel is run by Jimmy, the nicest guy in Cobán who has a lot of suggestions as to what to do in the area. He'll lend you a bike as well to discover Cobán and its surroundings. It's a fun place to meet new people, chat, enjoy some good music and hang out on the terrace. If you're looking for a very quiet, secluded place this might not be right for you but if you're up for some fun this is where you wanna stay. Jimmy is a great...
