The room itself was acceptable, although noise from other guests late at night made it difficult to rest. The only positive was the location, with a nearby shopping mall, grocery store, and the town square with shops and restaurants.
The real problem was with breakfast and the way charges were handled. The meal was fine, but not included in the room rate, which we understood. What we did not expect was to be deliberately misled. We specifically asked if coffee was included, and the waiter confirmed it was. At checkout, however, we were charged for the coffee, plus an extra fee for a splash of milk.
To make matters worse, after I accidentally dropped a small dish that had contained ketchup, we were charged an outrageous 35Q for it. This is blatant overcharging and feels like taking advantage of customers.
Between the dishonesty, the hidden charges, and the extortionate fee for a minor accident, this was a very negative experience. If I could give zero...
Read moreThis place have all what you expect from a hostel (a rarety in Guatemala) for an excellent price: wifi, big and decently-equiped kitchen, comfortable shared spaces, quiet and excellent location, clean and well-taken care of. The staff is friendly. Although there was water cuts in the city and the hostel was affected (low water reserves and no hot-showers), they were completely honest and straightforward since the beginning about the situation. The host owner make sure that everybody could take a shower with hot-water he was boiling in the kitchen. He also make sure to have just enough guests according to the amount of water available.
It is also a great place to take a break from certain turist traps in Guatemala.
It is slightly difficult to find, it is in a small street that doesn't apper in Google Maps. You have to walk through 2da Calle in order to find it, behind...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Tenango for a short 3 days stay in Coban last month. Well, the place is just awesome! Centrally located and relatively close to pretty much everywhere, its a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area! The staff is great and very informative on how to reach places such as Salto de Chilasco, Semuc Champey or other little places that can be done on a day trip. The wifi is great, bathrooms are great and the shared kitchen is simply a great add on for those on a budget. The room we were given was the small room on the rooftop which up to now still is probably one of the most romantic and lovely rooms of central america. Waking up over the rooftops of Coban was simply unbeatable!!! The price was also very reasonable. Once again, this place is perfect for those looking for a king's place but for...
