I just got back from a weekend trip from Balatonföldvár where we stayed at Anna Mária Villa. This is a 3-star hotel, the building's architecture suggests that it was built in the beginning of the 20th century, but it is fully renewed, very nice and modern. Cosy, clean rooms with free WiFi, a TV, small refrigerator (no minibar and no room service), bathrooms, you can choose if you want a room with a bathtub or a shower, and with or without a balcony. The hotel itself is like 5 meters from the Lake Balaton, has a nice garden with children's playground, an outdoor pool, and a very-very small yet nice indoor pool. Also there are wellness facilities such as massage and sauna, but those are for an additional fee. The hotel is "child-friendly", accomodation for children under 6 is free, playthings, small beds and pretty much everything a child would need seems to be available. ||Staff was very nice, I had to make a conference call which required a landline, and they gave all the help I needed. ||Breakfast is included in the price, small selection of cheese, some vegetables, cereal, yoghurt, coffee, tea, juice. Althought I very much missed fruits. An all-you-can-eat dinner is available for an extra price but we did not try that. ||Shops, cafés, restaurants are very close, but the whole area is rather quiet and peaceful. I hope we will get the chance to visit the place again and...
Read moreWe very nearly left before staying one night here, we were staying with 2 small children and were given a small room with barely enough space to fit the travel cot and extra single bed, plus there was no air-con meaning we'd need to keep the windows open which wasn't an option due to the noisy bars directly below our window. Luckily the staff reluctantly moved us to a larger room with air-con so this was far more comfortable.|The hotel is basic and generally a bit run down, the bath overflow was broken in our first room, shower fittings in the spa don't work properly and the outside pool is in a bad state of disrepair, with lots of tiles missing, the fountains appeared broken and a service hatch was left partially open - not very safe with small children around.|The buffet breakfast was OK but nothing special and was the same food every day. |Be aware that the train station is directly opposite the hotel and trains are both frequent and very noisy. |Overall we enjoyed our stay at Lake Balaton but this had very little to do with our accommodation. The only positive this hotel has going for it is the location as it is right on the edge of the lake and very near the sailing club. However I wouldn't stay here again unless it was very cheap and there were no...
Read moreThe grounds and the outside of the buildings of the complex were very nice and so was the indoor and outdoor pool area. We really liked the onsite outside bar and the fact that the lake was 10 steps away.||But we stayed in the building that hasn't been redecorated yet - patchy rugs, torn curtains and bedding the same age as the building (100 years?) didn't quite make us feel cosy and at home.||No room service meant that the garbage was not taken out for the whole of our stay (unless we did it ourselves) - not the best if you are travelling with a baby who uses nappies.||No air con meant that we had to keep the windows open - not the best option with the railway about 50 metres away.||The breakfast was the same each morning, and very very far from a 3-star standard: there was no real juice, no fruit, no sweet pastry except a sliced one that was stale and dry. Dinners were OK, good choice options for the kids, too. We liked to sit outside and have a chat while the kids were playing at the enclosed playground.||There is clearly an attempt here to make this hotel child-friendly, but they have a long way to go yet. For instance consider setting up a playroom in a room that accommodates more...
