We recently stayed at Balaland hotel with our family, including our 1- and 3-year-old children, hoping to enjoy a relaxing and high-quality vacation. While the hotel has great potential and some outstanding features, unfortunately, the overall experience did not live up to the expectations of a five-star resort.
Upon arrival, no one was present to greet us at the reception. We stood waiting for approximately 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, only to be told that they were very busy and we should return later. There was no welcome drink, no basic orientation, and no sign of hospitality. This was not the start we had hoped for.
We eventually received our cards and proceeded to the Family Park. While the space is filled with excellent toys and games and is truly enjoyable for both children and adults, the temperature inside was unbearable. It felt like a greenhouse, with no apparent air conditioning. One staff member told us that the air conditioning never works and it’s always hot, while another said it simply hadn’t been turned on yet but would be shortly. We never learned the truth, but in 35°C outdoor heat, this was unacceptable.
On the bright side, the Family Park itself is superb – spacious, creative, and truly a paradise for kids. The adjacent pool area is also beautiful and very family-friendly, with great slides and features for both children and adults. The sauna has a stunning panoramic view and was one of the highlights.
The Tico restaurant, however, was a major disappointment. Despite the extremely high prices (e.g. a hamburger for 7500 HUF without fries), the food quality was poor. Portion sizes were generous, but the overall value was far from justified.
The lakeside area was another downside. There were far too few sunbeds for the number of guests staying at the hotel. Because we didn’t arrive early enough, we couldn’t find any available, and ended up laying on a blanket by the lake – something we wouldn’t expect in a five-star hotel.
We stayed in a Deluxe Junior Suite, which was spacious and well-designed, especially for children. The kids loved the themed room, and the child-sized sink was a thoughtful touch. This part of the hotel definitely met five-star standards and was a highlight of our stay.
The Kids Club, in contrast to the Family Park, was rather basic with only a limited number of toys. Still, for younger children (1–3 years), it was perfectly suitable. There was one lovely staff member doing face painting who was professional and very kind.
Dinner at the main restaurant was good, with a wide variety and solid food quality. However, the service again did not meet the standard of a five-star hotel – inattentive, untrained, and lacking warmth.
In conclusion, the hotel has excellent infrastructure and huge potential, but fails to deliver on the level of service expected from a luxury resort. Staff training is urgently needed, as most employees seem unfamiliar with proper hospitality standards. Overall, we felt like we were in a four-star hotel with...

The suite was spacious and nice, the hotel facilities are new, and the kids loved them. The service was far from 5 stars. To begin with, upon arrival, if I hadn't asked for help from the staff, I would have had to carry 4 suitcases and two strollers to the room by myself. Breakfast was mediocre, dinner was not good, they do you a favor when they put a main course on your plate. There are no drinks at dinner, even if you want water it's at an extra cost, so we learned to bring our own water from the room. A 5-star hotel must have water coolers in every corner for free drinking water, the hotel doesn't have that. To buy water at the hotel, a bottle costs 2000 Hungarian Forints. At the restaurant in the water park, we ordered food, and in the meantime, the kids asked for chips, so I opened a bag we bought at the supermarket. An employee named Peter approached us and asked us not to eat them in the restaurant, claiming that if we wanted chips, we could buy them from them, and rudely said either we go outside to eat or not eat at all. I felt like a student being scolded by a teacher, not like a guest at a 5-star hotel. On our first day at the water park, I went down a slide with my son, a lifeguard approached me and asked me not to use the slides, that they're only for children and adults are not allowed. So, be aware, anyone coming to the hotel, the slides are for children only. Room cleaning was basic and not thorough, once we found a dirty towel with lipstick folded with the clean towels. The rooms are not soundproof, you can hear noise from all around, imagine a room above you with kids who don't go to sleep early, playing past midnight. There's no air conditioning in the room, one day it was hot and I couldn't sleep, and the whole bed was sweaty, both me and my wife. To add to that, after 7 PM there's nothing to do, they close the gymboree, turn off the lights outside, and only the kids' club remains, maybe 60 square meters with all the hotel's kids. And at check-out, I asked for a late check-out, they asked for 100 Euros. I told them I'm entitled to it for free, it's one of my benefits as an All Accor Silver member, they told me it's not possible, the hotel is fully booked on the check-out day. I went into the app as if to book a new room for the night, and there were rooms available, they seemed like liars and didn't apologize, and if I hadn't insisted, they wouldn't have let me stay at the hotel. After check-out, my wife and I carried 2 strollers with kids and 4 suitcases to a taxi in the parking lot without help from the hotel staff who were watching us. The hotel is not worth the price and needs a lot of improvement, especially in service. I would not recommend it from personal experience and after many trips to All Accor hotels...
