This is a family run place and it goes against my nature to be critical, but I'm afraid I have to be honest.||||This is a funny little place - tucked away off the road and stuck in some kind of time warp. We took one of the two bedroom chalets for our family of four. I think there was only one other couple staying on the site on the night of our stay.||||There is nothing wrong with the place per se, but it just needs a little love and good clean. It's the little things - the ashtray on our porch was unemptied and had a previous guests' butts in it; the curtains are thin and don't actually cover the windows fully; there were dead flies and cobwebs by the window frames. Another example would be the shower - the cubicle was small, there's no caddy to put your shampoo or soap so you have to put it on the floor, the shower head is low and the joint is worn so the shower head kept drooping down - little details but just typical of the sort of neglected nature of the place. It just needs some investment and a thorough clean and then it would represent good value, because it is cheap for Iceland.||||My wife put it best - it put her in mind of what a Soviet era Eastern Bloc Workers' Holiday Camp would have been like.||||If I'm being generous, I'd emphasise that it's cheap, you can self cater (we had the run of the Big House) and it's well located. However, the fact that it was actually dirty is inexcusable. We stayed in 8 places on our tour around Iceland - included one YHA hut - and Asgardur was undoubtedly...
Read moreI read that this a place to love or hate. I think this is true because it is not a traditional hotel as all our other stops were, it is a lovely old house with little cabins in the garden.||We stayed in one of these.||The cabins have 2 bedrooms , very simply furnished with single beds and no where to sit except the bed. There is a small kitchenette area and a simple bathroom with shower.we had the cabin to ourselves but I certainly would not want to share with strangers.||When we were there it was not full and the very welcoming owner?/manager? told us we would not be sharing. If travelling in high summer this is a point worth checking.||Had it been warm enough to sit outside this is an option but we went into the main house and found comfortable sofas. There is wifi in the main house.||Our beds were made up but if you brought sleeping bags it would be even cheaper. The other guests seemed to be all self catering but we had breakfast in the main house as part of our booking. It was a similar standard to the other hotels||we were made to feel welcome and i enjoyed seeing the groups of young people and the young families, this is not luxury but we enjoyed our stay here,||The cost is amazing for Iceland, we paid £77 for both of us for b and b.It is just on the edge of town, we walked to the museum but not for our...
Read moreThis is probably one of those places that either you love or you hate. In my case, I loved it. I have to admit it probably had to do with the fact that I spent the night alone in the big main house (Swiss chalet style), which dates back to 1927 and has this haunted house feel. Except for the exterior, the house has been refurbished, although you can see it's old (don't expect anything fancy) and you might even say it's somehow dated -but charmingly dated. Besides that, the house has everything one needs, e.g. a well-equipped kitchen, a great dining room, cozy beds and even a vinyl player! The owner was very friendly and helpful. The only con I have is that the house was not totally clean, but I can easily recommend this place for a night stay. And this might be the only place I've stayed in Iceland where they seemed to recycle...
