We ate here on our way back from visiting the waterfalls around Vik. Great food, service and atmosphere. Was initially unsure after seeing a few recent reviews on the quality of the service, however it was great for us and perhaps a misunderstanding of what a bar / restaurant is.
In the UK (and most of Europe in my experience) it is pretty common to order food at the bar and not have table service, it's a bar/ restaurant not a fine dining restaurant with table service, it's distinctly different to that.
As a side note my advice would be to book if you're a large group as I noticed several large tables were blocked off for the bookings whilst we were seated, maybe at much as 50%.
Anyway, we walked to the bar, ordered some drinks and sat down to review the menu (which says order at the bar) once we'd ordered it took maybe 10 minutes for food. We were admittedly the only ones in at the time but still good service.
Food was great quality, we ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a hot burger. I tried half of each and both were great, fries were good as well, crispy and freshly cooked.
Worth pointing out as well the bar is in a building with other hospitality related businesses and a small exhibit/ museum. So when you enter you'll actually be in an area with a museum in front of you, pool table to the right and to your left is the axe throwing, darts and all the way left at the end is the bar / restaurant. There is a signpost but...
Read moreI wanted to just say this place was "okay" -- 3/5. But then I started writing this review and had to downgrade it.
We are tourists from the US and came here for its unique experience.
Building itself is a bit dull -- it looks like a warehouse. Once you go in, it's very unclear if you're supposed to be there. No one greets you or anything and there's not even a sign to explain what's going on.
Instead, you're just in a plain hallway of some kind. Walking around, you quickly discover that there's a museum of sorts. It's okay -- mostly containing replicas and anecdotal stories of unknown legitimacy (some parts are clearly mythical). It's also poorly lit and highly verbose.
Meanwhile, there's a recreational area for axe throwing, darts, and other things. Which is neat I guess, but given this is categorized as a restaurant, not a recreational activity, it's not relevant to this review.
The food was below average. I ordered the pork ribs. The BBQ sauce was very sweet, but also the main/only flavoring on the ribs. They were clearly not marinated, just sauced after cooking. Further, the ribs were almost 70% fat or bones.
A friend ordered a pulled pork burger and that was much better. I only had a bite or two, but it seemed promising.
Fries were good.
Staff were barely cordial. They did bus our plates, but otherwise didn't really show any friendliness...
Read moreMy best friend and I traveled to Iceland this June, 2021. We had a super packed day and by 7pm we were completely famished. We decided to grab some dinner on our way to our Airbnb and conveniently found Valhalla restaurant and Saga center online about the same moment we saw the big sign pointing us in the right direction. We got to the restaurant and immediately became excited to see the really cool Viking décor. I got hit with a wave of great BBQ smells and was ready to EAT. We went right up to the counter and ordered our food and drinks. The man that helped us was super kind and looked more like a Viking then anyone I saw yet. We loved walking through the Viking museum and reading about the Sagas while waiting for our food. We took some pictures and played with wooden swords' (a hobby of ours) we then sat in the great hall. The lovely man who took our order brought us some complementary shots of an Icelandic alcohol. It was just what the two of us needed ! We were blown away with how nice that was and how great an experience the night was. The food was very tasty and I even liked their coleslaw (which I usually do not). Overall we really enjoyed this place and thank you for the great meal and those awesome drinks !! Great job and keep...
