It is not at all what is advertised.
When I arrived, my booking had been put under my second guest's name, even though I had done the booking and provided mine as primary. The hosts did not speak English very well, which is obviously okay (I'm in a foreign country, I don't expect English experts), it just made the negotiation of the issue quite difficult, as well as the issue with my room (included at the end, as I assume it's hopefully not a common issue).
The hotel claims to have soundproof rooms, and that is not true. The windows are so poorly installed that you can feel wind and hear sounds through them clearly, and I could hear everyone passing in the hallway.
The hotel website is also apparently down, possibly a temporary thing, but it meant not getting any info. When I tried to email the hosts (three times), I received no response.
The tvs only receive two stations that we could find, both evangelical channels. I didn't go to Iceland to watch tv, but after a week-long trip, all we wanted was to be able to put on some sitcom or even the news to relax a bit before bed.
The bedding was sorely lacking -- mine had several holes, and all of the pillows were terrible. I am a one-pillow sleeper, literally never use two, and I had to use two just to feel like there was something underneath my head.
The issue I experienced was extremely annoying, but is probably not a systematic issue like the others I listed, so I'm including it here but not including it in my factors for the actual review score. The room I received smelled like strong cigarette smoke, and the host did not seem to understand that it was an issue for me. The room had also been poorly cleaned -- there were clear crumbs on the nightstand. Once we worked through that (and she just casually swept the crumbs off the nightstand with her hand), she told me they were fully booked, but that I could move to another room because the other people hadn't checked in yet. I opted to just stay, as my luggage was already in the room and why would I subject someone else to...
Read moreRead moreThe hotel is a good 17 minutes drive away from the places you want to be. For that compromise you would expect a clean room, you would be disappointed. The shower curtains are from the 1960's, and they have a mop suggesting you clean after you shower. The most unbelievable thing of all is not the location or the rooms, it is the two ( assume husband and wife owners ) team at the front. I decided to call them the crooks !||I wanted to see a friend. I assumed they are just like the other 5 hotels I stayed at in Iceland, professions. I asked for a place where I can get wine to take with me. The lady jumped at the opportunity to tell me she can sell me one. Nice ! I said at the time. The price 7000. I said that seems excessive for a bottle of wine. O no. That is the price it is sold. So believing the old man would not lie, i paid in cash.||||Bothered by the price, I asked a friend to go to a liquor store with me. Yes, the same wine was 2499. What crooks these two are. Don't believe anything they tell you, especially if you happen to be black or brown. Yes, that too.||I confronted them in the morning, I got the deer in the headlight. So i left Iceland with so many beautiful memories and these two...
A small hotel outside the the city hustle but close enough. The rooms are not the Ritz but they don't try to be. The rooms are big enough for two, quiet and warm. The shower is strong and hot. All is very clean and kept in good order.
The breakfast was good, simple and gets you going. Boiled eggs were always fresh. Many languages heard in the dining area, German ,French and Icelandic.
Very close 3 min walk is a bakery supermarket, pharmacy and a restaurant. A bit further is a nice coffee/bistro and a gymnasium.
A few note...Some rooms do not have desks, if you need make sure to specify. The curtains did not blackout enough, a sleeping mask (or a good shot, buy a bottle before you leave the airport) helps dim the bright night sun.
A family business and they are active on premises each day. They do the check-in/out, cleaning, and all else that needs to be done. All are quite friendly and very hospitable. Keep the money going to these businesses and not...
