Skalli Bistro — Restaurant in Kopavogur

HIDDEN GEM!!! I have been to Iceland many times the past few years and I always make it a priority to visit Skalli bistro on my first and last day. No joke it’s been my first and last meal in Iceland each time and it’s always top notch food! I absolutely love the simple Pizza Margherita. If you were blindfolded and fed this pizza you’d think a master pizzaiolo from Italy had just made you a delicious neapolitan pizza. The dough is out of this world. Light and airy! Quality tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Simple pizza but so direct in flavor! The restaurant also has some of the best fish n chips that you’ll find in Iceland. They do theirs with a panko breadcrumb opposed to the usual batter fried fish but it’s an absolute winner of a fish n chips. The fish is always perfectly cooked and fresh! Great tartar sauce. The burgers here are delicious as well. They make their own burger buns utilizing what appears to be a similar technique to how Japanese Hokkaido milk buns are made. This results in a burger bun that you’ll find yourself dreaming about after you eat it… trust me when I tell you this restaurant is a powerhouse in producing quality and delicious food that warms your soul! Family of 4 adults visiting Iceland from USA.  We had just done the rural sites and were looking for something contemporary that was representative of Iceland cuisine.  Skalli was the place!  It’s like gourmet fast food.  They had several unique pizzas on the menu.  We tried one and it was delicious.  The rest of our party ordered different sandwich-type entrees from the menu and every one was great.

Afterward my wife and I got some of their ice-cream:  hand-dipped there in the restaurant.  Also delicious.

Prices were in line with everywhere else in Iceland.  Four adults spent about $100 in US dollars.  Seems very high until you buy groceries or eat a few places, then you realize it’s in line with the average.  Eating area and WC were clean.

One more thing:  The staff was incredibly nice.  Pretty sure the guy overseeing the dinner rush was an actual Chef.  The counter staff also were competent and kept a good demeanor despite a pretty steady...

Waited almost 40 minutes for a plain cheeseburger and a tiny portion of fries. Was actually at the counter waiting for service to ask for a refund when they came with my order. Asked polity why it did take so long, the poor server did not even get a chance to reply when the owner jumped in and accused me of lying and then came with the excuse that they were busy.
