Colvá is a coastal village in Salcete, south Goa, on the west coast of India. Colva Beach stretches for around 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi), part of a beach consisting of about 25 kilometres (16 mi) of white sand, extending from Bogmalo in the north to Cabo de Rama in the south. The village had significant importance to Portugal and was the retreat for Goa's high society, who would come to Colvá for their mundanca or change of air. Today the Portuguese area is dotted with houses or villas, including many ruins. On weekends, huge crowds of tourists, visitors from around the world as well as local Indians, enjoy the sunset and various activities. The beach is particularly busy in October, when hordes of religious pilgrims come and visit Colvá Church, called Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Merces, that was founded in 1630 by the Roiz family and rebuilt in the eighteenth century on the village square. The local people have been fishermen since the mid-16th century. They include Hindu converts as well as migrants from various Portuguese overseas territories such as Angola, Mozambique, Brazil, etc. as well as Portugal itselfColvá was a vast barren uninhabited land with a scenic Arabian Sea beach that had beach plants such as scaevola sericea until a few Harim (fisherfolk community) settled there as migrants, primarily in the neighbouring village of Benaulim. The Mughal Empire, and the Adil Shahi dynasty preferred the north and hilly regions of Goa, where they built forts and defences, rather than the coastal belt, and hence had not settled the barren land of Colvá. It was the Portuguese conquest which established the western regions of South Goa as a full-fledged human settlement. Colvá was under Portuguese administration, as the Province of Portuguese-Goa, from 1510 until 1961 (and was still under dispute and represented in the Parliament of Portugal till 1974/75). It was the village of the Portuguese Roiz family, the descendants of D. Diogo Rodrigues, and its villagers. The village had belonged since 1550 to D. Diogo Rodrigues, who was the Lord of Colvá (Landlord of Colvá). He built the first Portuguese architecture residential house in 1551 facing away from the sea and at a distance from the shore to avoid any enemy attacks from the Arabian Sea. The entire beach called Praia da Colvá belonged to him. In the 18th century, one of Diogo's descendants, Sebastião José Roiz, ordered the village people to plant coconut trees along the entire coastline, which the villagers thought was a waste of time as the soil was white and thus infertile and unable to sustain their growth. However today the shore line is fringed by those plantations of coconut trees. The entire Colvá shore and beach property as far as Betalbatim was inherited by various descendants of the Roiz family until the late 20th century, after which parts were handed over to the Government of Goa under the post-1974 Indian administration following the 1961 annexation of Goa by India. The rest of the land was sold.

I’m forced to write my 1st ever review because the experience at this resort was a nightmare. There were a lot of things that were wrong and not worth spending 50k for 1 night. We usually look at the reviews and the website’s information before booking. Nowhere on their website or Agoda (booked on this site) did they mention about the road condition. There’s a 1.5 km of mud road that our car can go and then another 1 km where our cars cannot go as the road is TERRIBLE. They have a pickup vehicle which drops us off a few 100 meters away and we have to walk down to the resort. This was not what we expected especially when we have 4 elderly people. When we asked the manager about this, he said they have it on their websites which was a complete lie. He said we had to read the reviews before booking. Thank you for that tip! Now, midst of all this, the owner, one Mr. Srinath was around and heard the commotion. Instead of apologizing for all the hassle and the bad service, he got very angry with us for booking through Agoda. This was very humiliating because we spent the money to stay there but instead were threatened that he’ll call the police. He simply does not understand the basics of hospitality and hotel management, when the only thing he wants is to earn money in every way possible completely ignoring customer service. We fail to understand his arrogance. When we paid this amount for one night, the rooms are expected to be good but no. The jacuzzi was not kept clean and ready even after they knew they had a booking. They cleaned 5 hours after we checked-in and still the water ran dirty. This is the level of experience they give. Every single thing was a hassle and not maintained well at all. Please do not go there, I’m pretty sure there are other places that are way better than this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if the management deletes my comment.

What a disappointment this establishment was..... In 3 months of traveling India, we booked this place to celebrate Christmas. It was the most expensive and it looked so heavenly in the pics. We asked them months in advance if they are cooking Christmas dinner or anything special and they said yes. Well on Christmas day, it was the same menu, for lunch and dinner. So they lied. Also, we both got food poisoning from eating omelette, so bad that we couldn't leave the bathroom for too long. Lasted 3 days of dehydration and feeling sick. Couldn't even drink water or eat rice. Worst Christmas we ever had. Food ingredients and hygiene should be verified, but i saw the state of the kitchen from the uphill and it's not clean. We ate at really cheap places all over India and never got any food poisoning, and we got it from the fanciest. Also the door doesn't close correctly, leaving space for bugs & insects to come in at night. The wires in the bathroom aren't isolated, putting you in danger of electrocution. There's no HOT WATER! The shower fell from the wall and almost killed me. The jacuzzi is filthy and not working correctly , the water turns brown after a while of using it. It takes around 2h for it to fill. The only positive thing is the view and the location. And the service was prompt. When reported these issues to the manager, he didn't said to much only, he'll send someone to check. Nobody came. I can't give them more than 2 stars. We won't be returning here at all or to India overwall. The hospitality industry is years behind any other asian country.

Beautiful place but bad infrastructure!!!

Toh, shuru se shuru krte hai.

We had 4 days of stay there, when we reached there, gates were closed (which is 3-5 mins drive away from resort’s main entrance) and nobody was there to open it. Couldn’t call any from the reception area cause there were no networks. We had 3 sims, vodafone, Airtel and Jio but none of them were working. Somehow finally after struggling for 10 minutes our driver got networks & he called to send someone at the door.

When we reached the main entrance, nobody was there to pick up our luggage. After waiting for 4-5 minutes Driver went down to the reception area, nd told us they are sending someone. We waited for another 10 minutes but nobody came so we had to came down from the stairs by carrying our luggage. I know carrying our own luggage isn’t any problem but this property is specified as 5 STAR, it’s mandatory to help guests with their luggage.

They apologised!!! It’s okay, we also got cooled down. Then we reached to our room. ROOMS WERE CLEAN, BEAUTIFUL, HUGE, MODERN FACILITIES, HUGE HUGE HUGE BATHROOM, BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR, WITH BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL VIEW, HUGE HYDRO POOL but it was sooooooooo dirty… pool wasn’t clean. I’ll attach the photo. It has dirty water in it… They said that they will clean it but it took them too long to clean it nd they didn’t fill it. We paid for the pool room nd we couldn’t use it… They promised that they will fill it tomorrow for sure. Which they did. But there was a leak in the pipe. ( they didn’t know it that time) So it couldn’t get filled.

I was in the toilet, popping of course, and after sitting on the pod for about 5-7 minutes I realised there was no water coming from the tap to clean myself. I called the the reception (from toilet phone, I didn’t get up in that situation and walked to my room, that’s really ewwww) they said tank is empty, will take 5 minutes to fill.

Next day they were working on pool to get filled but it couldn’t filled later my husband told them maybe there is some leakage then they checked nd yes there was a huge leakage. They said it will get fixed in no time. Then I went to take shower, water was coming fine , I put shampoo on my head nd vhoooshhhh!!! WATER IS GONE AGAIN!!! Called them again they said Tank khali ho gya hai.. for about 20 minutes I was sitting there in bathrobe with shampoo on my head. then 2 girls brought me water in buckets. But by then they fixed the pipe. (It took more than 30 minutes)

My husband wanted to checkout immediately, he had called the cab also. ( not through the phone networks, resort’s wifi was good so It helped).

But I wanted to stay cause Goa me itna acha view wala room kahi nhi milega… and trust me the staff was so kind nd amazing nd helpful, Hume preshan dekh k wo log bhi preshan the, pura staff was there to make us feel better.

The staff do not treat you like a guest in any hotel or resort, they treat you like A GUEST IN THEIR OWN HOUSE. Their behaviour was so accommodating, polite, friendly. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS, Bilkul ghar ka Khana… everything we had their was sooooo DELICIOUS…

But we had to quit our 4 days stay in just 2 days cause there was a huge thunderstorm in whole South Goa nd wifi was also gone, staff wasn’t sure ki kab tak fixed hoga. My husband owns a business nd he does his own marketing so he has to be available and online 24*7 all the time. We both were very very upset. Of course it was a financial loss for us cause refund policy isn’t available! But more than that we were upset that we had to leave from there like this. We didn’t want to leave like this. Pool, water problem everything was fixed. the guy kept coming in every one hour to check pool water to clean to see if it’s fine or not. But we had to go b’coz WORK COMES FIRST. Would definitely come again if infrastructure problem...
