Initially, I excused the scope of Elgin Hall for lacking a single sign board for guidance to their entrance, as well as the drive in ergonomics that ravaged my SUVâs bumper. But this was just the start of a complete nightmare.
Never before have I come across a place that charges an astronomical tariff of 11,000 a night without even having the decency to offer clean sheets, towels and a well cleaned room. The attached photos shed light on some of the horrific surprises that welcomed me at Elgin Hall. Despite most of the property being empty, the generous owner and management provided me the smallest room, which hadnt even been properly cleaned and had a musty smell.
In the midst of the pandemic, not one staff person had their mask on, let alone gloves or face shields. We were two lady travellers staying at Elgin Hall and all the male staff would enter our room without knocking, and despite changing the linen and towels after we complained, they still had hair, rust and red stains on them.
It gets worse still. The high tea âclubâ sandwiches had ketchup and cucumber in them, and we ate are breakfast in the sniggering presence of masons who were finishing up some noisy construction work right where we had been served our breakfast. It surely is uncomfortable to have your breakfast with unknown labourers and idling staff persons staring at you. We would be given calls late at night from the room service for no good reason. On top of that, some staff members were excessively noisy and disturbed our sleep at night.
When I stepped into the shower after 12 hours of strenuous travel, the oddly functioning mixer almost burnt me due to the temperature extremities of the water. There were soap stains from the previous guestâs stay and a filthy bath mat, dusty and dirty waste commode.
Being a fellow hotelier myself, I did not find it appropriate to post a review of this kind without informing the ownership and management. After some superficial concern initially, my repeated pleas have gone unheard and the manager even blocked me from further contacting him. The owner cowardly hides and leads the example of Elgin Hallâs complete lack of accountability.
A fraud establishment that tricks you into it with their fancy website photographs and delivers nothing short of a nightmare. And worse still, charges you 11,000 a night for it (being a B and B establishment, they donât even have taxes to pay!!)
A new low in hospitality, hotel management...
Read moreElgin! A british era colonial villa with 7 rooms, lush green gardens, ample parking space, fire place, open sitting areas, a fully equipped restaurant with excellent crockery and cutlery. Staff is well behaved and always has a smile on face with a greeting every time they see you. You enter the lobby area with fragrance of Sagwan wood, wooden staircase. What i like the most is the fact that despite being a 100 year old villa thr is no feeling that u r being deprived of Morden amenities and the charm of an old building is bery well maintained. A house keeping staff was cleaning a transparent glass candle lamp besides the fire place and it took him 30 minutes to do so after he left i went close to see what took him so long, but thr i witnessed a flawless absolutely clean lamp. To maintain a property like this attention to minutest of detail is required and i must say the staff is briefed very well. Decent breakfast spread excellent tea and coffee. Food is also very good and decently prized. Unlike other hotels the staff is not pushing u to have ur dinner as they want to close the kitchen, infact my server asked me not to worry about the time and enjoy as much as i could. This is unreal. Rooms are neat with clean washrooms and have a wide variety of tea, green tea and coffee sachets and a boiling kettle which was decent. I was expecting a capsule coffee machine but thats ok. All in all a good comfortable stay if i were to give a suggestion i would have appreciated a security guard probably armed...

Elgin Hall has all the qualities; charm, good food, good service, cleanliness and comfort.
Every member of the staff was helpful and happy to serve at all times. Regardless of the snow the property is kept very clean. With back to back bookings and people walking around in wet boots, the staff was always on point to clean it up. I never had to ask for anything twice. It seems the staff is hand picked and well guided & trained by the owners. The whole property is very tastefully decorated. All the crockery cutlery & glassware is topnotch. They have a lil gift shop where you can buy these beautiful items. The beds are lined with soft sherpa blankets and all rooms & bathrooms have heaters for your comfort. You will not run out of food choices as the chef is great at what he does. Do try their mutton roganjosh, aloo tikki, aloo puri, chicken biryani, samber dosa, stuffed kulcha....the list is endless. I believe the restaurant is now open for non residents too...so drop in even if your not staying here. Its worth it. During our lil bonfire party we put some cinnamon sticks & pinecones in the fire which smelled divine. Maybe the management can make it a standard future practice for that added perk.
Definitely recommend Elgin Hall for a completely rejuvenating...
