As you embark on the final stretch to the Ramada by Wyndham Kochi, the transition from the main road to a narrow, fragmented path sets a worrisome tone for this secluded retreat. The 10-minute approach, bumpy and unrefined, may temper expectations, challenging the hotel’s star rating before you even arrive.||Upon arrival, however, the Ramada reveals itself as a quaint and charming sanctuary. It stands as a testament to potential, hinting at the grandeur that could be achieved with enhanced care and maintenance. This hidden gem beckons with the promise of peace, away from the cacophony of city life.||The heart of any stay, the accommodation, at Ramada starts with our choice of one of the lakefront cottages, room number 101 on the first floor, to be precise. Boasting what is arguably the property’s most breathtaking view, it offers a serene panorama. Yet, the cottage’s allure is tinged by an air of modesty; the furnishings and décor suggest a comfortable yet understated two-star charm, rather than opulent luxury. Notwithstanding, the cleanliness, effective air conditioning, and tidy bathroom facilities do offer a sanctuary from Kochi’s relentless humidity.||Transitioning from the room to the hotel’s culinary offerings, the experience at Pearlspot, the in-house seafood restaurant, was less than stellar. The prawn dishes, expected to be a highlight, fell short in flavor and portion size, not aligning with the ambiance or expectations set by the locale.||The staff, warm and accommodating, strive to bridge the gap between guest needs and facilities delivery. Despite their earnest efforts, there seems to be a gap in the finesse and professional polish one might expect from qualified hotel management, which could enhance the overall guest experience significantly.||While this Ramada property might beckon as an idyllic retreat for those seeking to disconnect and relax (‘veg out’), it’s important to manage expectations. The hotel, with its tranquil setting, aligns more closely with the quaint charm of a well-maintained two-star property rather than the grandeur of its self-proclaimed five-star status.||Concluding the experience, the pricing—9,000 rupees for a one-night Thursday stay in February—reflects a fair compromise between the serene location and the modest amenities on offer. Ideal for a fleeting escape, Ramada serves as a reminder that tranquility can be found, if one is willing to temper luxury expectations for the charm of simplicity...
Read moreI had visited the resort for a wedding and resided in one of the lake view cottages. The resort is located on the Vembanad Lake on the island of Kumbalam, around 20 kms from Ernakulam/Fort Kochi. Getting there was easy, you will get plenty of cabs from the airport. I believe it is the same for the railway station as well. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to reach from the airport and costs around 1200-1500.
This is a beautiful property, easily one of the best waterside resorts I have ever visited. There is a massive(and long) swimming pool adjacent to the lake side boundary. It makes for a beautiful sight and the swim is enjoyable, especially in the evenings. Afternoons are pretty hot and ideally should be used for local sight seeing in Kochi.
The rooms were pretty good and spacious with most modern facilities. Mattresses and pillows were not top grade but very comfortable(I mean that I have tried better). The lake side cottages have a beautiful balcony and an insane view. This view is well worth everything you pay for. There are two very comfortable outdoor loungers for you to enjoy the same 😅
The service was fantastic and they treat you very well right from the bell boy to the security. Room service was always prompt. House keeping would always do a good job and again they were very prompt whenever we called. The Wifi was average and fluctuating a lot. Cable TV was again average. But, honesty we didn’t need much of both since there was so much to enjoy outside.
The food was fairly good. We tried the in-house restaurant. I got a sense that they were better at cooking the local cuisine than continental/North Indian(Honestly, I did not try enough to be certain of it). When it comes to seafood, we tried the seer fish fry and it was really good. Most fellow guests loved whatever sea food they tried.
Some words on the outdoor wedding reception area. Its pretty large and can easily accommodate 500 odd people. The stage is set against the lake backdrop. Makes for a beautiful sight. They had enough lighting and a pretty good sound system as well.
There is a fitness centre, a spa, an ayurveda centre and an indoor play area as well. I heard really good reviews of the spa from some fellow guests, but didn't...
