My friends and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Radha Cottage Heritage Resort in Matheran for two nights. The resort is approximately a 20-minute walk (about 1.4 km) from the main market, making it a peaceful retreat away from the bustling town center. Accommodation: We booked our stay with a meal package, spending one night in a villa and the second night in two separate rooms. The rooms were spacious and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. The Wi-Fi service covers the entire property, but it stops working during power outages. It would be beneficial if the resort could connect the Wi-Fi to a power backup, especially given the poor network signals in the area. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, thanks to the diligent housekeeping staff. Facilities: The resort features a small plunge pool, which we couldn't fully enjoy due to the rainy season. Many of the amenities are outdoors and open-air, which might limit their use during inclement weather. The in-house restaurant offers food only with the meal package booking, as there is no à la carte menu. Despite this, the food was delicious. Dining Experience: The resort serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The vegetarian menu consists mostly of homemade dishes, which, while tasty, may not appeal to everyone's palate. Options like dill leaves, brinjal, and cluster beans are quite specific and may not be universally liked. The non-vegetarian menu offers fish, chicken, and egg dishes, which were well-prepared. They also served tasty Chinese noodles in the vegetarian section. Overall, the food quality was great, but a little more variety, especially in the vegetarian menu, would enhance the dining experience. Service: The staff at the resort were very helpful and accommodating. However, we faced some inconvenience during check-in due to a miscommunication about our booking. Despite showing the confirmation message, the reception initially denied our booking. Eventually, they figured out the mistake, which dampened our first impression. On the positive side, during checkout, we met the owner who was friendly and gave us a tour of their other heritage rooms, which were sold out during our stay. Suggestions: 1. Wi-Fi Backup:Ensure the Wi-Fi works during power outages by connecting it to a power backup. 2. Vegetarian Menu:Expand the vegetarian menu to include more universally appealing dishes. 3. Bicycles for Guests:Providing bicycles for guests would make it more convenient to travel to the market. 4. Geyser in room.. as they need to be instant geyser of 1-2 ltr as the geyser of 4 ltr doesn’t heat the water properly. In conclusion, Radha Cottage Heritage Resort is a charming property with potential for a wonderful stay, especially if a few improvements are made. The serene location, helpful staff, and quality food are definite highlights, and with a few tweaks, it could offer an even better experience.

We had a really bad experience. We booked a AC room from Yatra but after reaching the hotel we were told that the booking is for non AC room. Initially we were just told that we should contact yatra and sort it out. After we insisted to check they contacted their owner who started demanding photo of the booking even after we had shown the booking to the reception. As if we were lying. They agreed to give us a AC room for one day and told us we had to shift to another room and blamed everything on Yatra. They did not bother checking anything with yatra. I wasted my entire day talking and emailing yarta to sort it out. There is really bad network coverage in the areas which made it worse. Till evening the owner did not do anything from her side. Finally in the evening yatra confirmed to me that the booking issue is due to a mistake done by the hotel. After this suddenly one AC room became available and owner offered me that room for the next day also but again said that i might have to switch the room on the next day. Basically she was asking me stay in 3 different rooms for 3 nights ! She did not even apologize about it. Ended up wasting my entire day all because of their fault. Next day we called the reception and told them we will move to different room at 12:30 which they said is ok. After 30 mins when i called them for some other issue they told me that I have to switch room in just 5 mins. This is just ridiculous! When we finally shifted in 5 mins to another room we saw that the AC is not working there. We wasted another 30 mins where the staff was trying to figure our what went wrong. Later they gave us another room that was part of the same duplex. After shifting the room we had our lunch and came back to take a nap and to our surprise the staff came to room with some technician to repair the AC. We told him you can do it when we are not in the room but that they were not ready to listen. After insisting he said something rudely and went back. After 1/2 hrs another guy came to disturb our sleep and insisted that we let me inspect the AC in another room. We just gave up at this point and let him check it. On top of this the rooms were not maintained and were dirty especially the bathroom. There was low pressure in all taps and they switch off AC every morning and don't switch it on till after claiming thar gysers are on the the morning. This is the most pathetic hotel that I have stayed at. They have no clue about how to talk to customers and how to manage a hotel. They behave as if they are doing us a big favour by letting us stay there. Stay away from this place if you don't want to ruin your vacation !

A Peaceful Heritage Retreat – Radha Cottage, Matheran Radha Cottage is a truly unique heritage resort that stands out in Matheran for many reasons. Located slightly away from the bustling market, it offers a rare sense of peace and tranquility, complemented by warm and attentive service. This 125-year-old property, originally established by Mr. Pherozshah Mehta, economist and great freedom fighter, has been lovingly restored. The renovation work reflects a fine balance of heritage charm and modern comforts, with tasteful, high-quality interiors. Every room comes with a spacious veranda — perfect for long, relaxed conversations with loved ones while soaking in the serene surroundings. Set amidst the lush southern part of Matheran, the resort’s layout across various levels offers both privacy and a unique natural ambiance. Major viewpoints like the Sunrise and Sunset Points are less than a kilometer away, making for easy morning or evening walks. Other nearby attractions include Charlotte Lake, the Olympia Race Course, Matheran’s oldest school, a historic church, temples dedicated to local deities, and the iconic Tata Bombay House guest house — all within walking distance. One of the highlights of our stay was the resort’s charming dining hall, which serves authentic and flavorful Maharashtrian cuisine. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are thoughtfully prepared, and the Puran Poli deserves a special mention — a true culinary delight! During our stay, we came to know that the owners of Radha Cottage have recently acquired an adjacent property that features a 140-year-old heritage structure. This too has been beautifully modified with great care and unmatched craftsmanship. The interiors boast high-end antique furniture on par with seven-star hotels. Around eight luxurious rooms have been developed to cater to discerning guests, and bookings are now open. We're already looking forward to returning to experience this elevated level of comfort and elegance. Overall, our 3-day stay at Radha Cottage last week was a deeply enriching experience. If you're looking for heritage, hospitality, and harmony with nature — this is the place to be.

My overall experience right from booking to check out was fantastic.

I decided on Radha Cottage solely after reading positive reviews on-line and I am glad I could give my family a great time.

I visited Radha cottage with my wife and 5 month old infant being super cautious about the room hygiene, overall property, food, hospitality and above all staff. I did the booking on phone with Ms Vidula (owner) who is gem of a person and gave me a better deal than what i could see on-line. She is kind, soft spoken and also helped me decide on a honeymoon room/ cottage for my small family.

After visiting the place, we found the honeymoon room cozy but less spacious as what we expected looking at the on-line pics. This made my slightly uncomfortable at the first go as I also had my infant son along. Through the lady manager I spoke to Vidula Madam who acknowledged my concern and without much questions thankfully upgraded me to duplex Villa (partial possession though) since they were available. Now folks, this is something which I highly appreciate of Vidula Madam, lady manager and Radha cottage as this gave me a sense of what their motto are. Many thanks !!!

We then shifted to Cottage # 9, where we could access a bedroom, living room and a balcony. Overall both were appropriately maintained rooms but duplex Villas are awesome and very spacious for large families or bigger groups.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Every meal was pleasurable and big thanks goes to the seniors chef who is know as 'Mama'. Every dish prepared by him and his team was delicious and my taste buds still call for Mutton Masala. Food was authentic Maharashtrian thali with nice course with limited but adequate choices which is served on your table. I am a food lover and will rate then 5 / 5. Best was, they were flexible in planning next meal in conjunction with what we would prefer (ofcourse in reasonable limits)

Staff boys are young, energetic and are very helpful. Raju is the senior person looking after everything at the property after the lady manager. Room service is timely.

They have a small garden area with couple of swings and a slide which is mainly a children's play area. Mobile network has limited access here which I loved as you don't really wanna be running around your ever buzzing phones while on vacation. Rooms are equipped with intercom and every reasonable amenity that I wished for at the given price.

I would rank their overall hospitality the best as I experienced Orange County (Coorg) here where their motto is guest's satisfaction and high quality service.

Only con side is Radha cottage is quite distant from the Matheran station which warrants around 20 mins of walk however its worth if you wish to be a closer to the nature with a good property.

Beware of your bags and other belongings with monkeys around.

Again, Thanks a a ton for taking care of my family and I will look forward to visit again in a...
