Giving 2 stars for the chef and location. Hygiene is an issue here!
I debated for a long time whether to write this review, but I personally would have appreciated knowing about an experience like this in advance. I booked Hotel Aoscar well ahead of time, considering it great value for money. Reviews were excellent, and the location suited my needs perfectly. I’ll be straightforward and factual—I don’t want to offend anyone.
The check-in process took almost 45 minutes. The reception staff did not speak English, and it seemed like they rarely accommodated non-Indian foreign travelers. They were unsure about the required procedures (visas/stamps checks, passport copies/pictures, forms). While I understand these are government-mandated procedures, the staff should know how to handle them efficiently.
WiFi was included in our rate according to listing, but they forgot to inform us that there was no signal at all in the entire hotel (forget about Airtel mobile data, only emergency calls).
The Room was a huge disappointment. I don’t mind worn-out furniture, towels, or bed linens, even though the sheets were yellowed and had holes. What I do mind is hygiene, and this was the main issue. The room was only superficially cleaned - dust, cobwebs, spiders, ants, dirty walls, and grimy surfaces. The bedside table was so filthy that my cleaning wipe turned black after wiping it once. The worst part? A mouse in the room. I started checking under the bed after hearing noises and found a shocking level of dirt—things I’ve never seen in paid accommodation before. I managed to capture the mouse on video and hotel switch our room immediately. The second room was noticeably cleaner, but the next day, I discovered a chewed-up packet of mouth freshener, with its contents scattered on the wardrobe. Since we were only staying two nights, I didn’t report it again. But this is a major issue. I strongly recommend the hotel invest in better hygiene.
On a positive note, the chef was fantastic. He prepared excellent meals for both breakfast and dinner, and we always managed to communicate—even without words. Thank...
Read moreA very decent hotel located close to Neil kendra where the only petrol pump, market, shop and office of all ferry operators are located. I booked a king room with balcony. The room is spacious and was quite comfortable. The balcony was facing the road so didn't offer much of an excitement and occasional vehicles whizzing past the hotel spoiled the quietness in the room .The restaurant was operating for limited time probably because of off-season time. The food was decent and service was excellent. The washroom was decent with no extra frills.Only glitch was that the water kettle...
Read moreA very nice and comfortable stay right in the heart of the Islands. Rooms were very cozy and well maintained. The staff were very friendly, approachable, professional and most importantly very sweet. We were more than satisfied with their services and were amused when they played our heartthrob ZUBEEN GARG's (Da's) songs and our emotion BIHU only knowing to the fact that we were from Assam!! More than thankful for their gentle behaviour. I would highly recommend this hotel for a lovely stay in...
