OUR EXPERIENCE as a FAMILY at Sunvalley :
It's really rare to find such a beautiful homestay in all of Nilgiris (Coonoor). First of all Sunvalley is at a beautiful location. It's really serene, quiet and a location where there is a beautiful view overlooking the valley and tea gardens. The great thing is that almost all rooms have small or large balconies overlooking this view. So peaceful to just sit and stare at the landscape. ROOMS being really comfortable, with great amenities. I had already talked to Mr. Sarath regarding how many of us were visiting and he reccomended the number/type of rooms and we all had a great experience with these choices. 12 of us including infants and children accomodated really well.
I found most of the rooms even have some good Ikea products and Sony Bravia TVs. Hot water is always available. We stayed as 12 people and had a full section all to ourselves, not to mention a good and working Kitchen, inside the building with Herbal Water provided all the time. There was even a staff member there to help us with anything if need be. No shortage for entertainment during the night. GREAT ROOM SERVICE was a good addition in a cold place. Not even once we had to call the staff to solve some issues or anything as eveything was well taken care of. In short, it was a good homely vibe. FOOD was really satiating and even the varieties of food from the kitchen were many, whether it be veg or non veg. Healthy and traditional options were the best highlight, especially the luch meal was of legendary South Indian Standards.
The kitchen was really clean and they even urge customers to check inside. This trust and transparency is what make Sunvalley different from other resorts or homestays. The attendants cooks were really polite, especially with our suggestions and what we wanted. They are also GREAT FOR CHILDREN'S FOOD preparation as well. We travelled with Infants and children, they specially considered our advise and gave us the best. All the staff in the kitchen were always on their toes and attending to evey guest there with equal focus. THE BREAKFAST IS OF SPECIAL MENTION - multiple South Indian Food Options, in which Appam was brilliant(I would have had atleast 5 Myself) So this is one of the best highlights of SunValley - Homely Food that you customise according to your needs, if you are a big party with elders and kids.
Last and Most important - SERVICE - something I think is so underrated nowadays with the hospitality industry. The Service here made me write this detailed review to be honest. Since my communication with Mr. Sarath who listened out to all my needs and co-ordinated with the team since my first call, it has been a smooth journey till the checkout. Mr. Sarath was present all the time when needed and helped us check in, have a comfortable stay and check out as well.
Most importantly, they are really good PROFESSIONALS at their service, What is the best is that they have a number of staff designated to all the different work there, hence there will be someone who will always be present if we need them. Most of the formal communication for booking was through mail and everything was on the record. We even asked them for a GST bill and it was given to us. They gave us a great pricing as well. Everyone at Sunvalley knew how to take care of guests, hence I believe it is the experience of the hosts that accounts to it. The warmth, smiles and hospitality of all the crew here made us really happy. Making our memories well worth it. We really want to return here again for relaxing and having a great time in the Nilgiris.
Once again we thank all the crew and folks at Sun Valley for making our experience so great. Last but not the least, we thank the OWNERS of SUNVALLEY who created this beatiful resort experience for us with the intention of deilivering comfort and happiness. Really love the organised, perfect workflow and the infrastructure of the whole place. We are thrilled to return again. Wishing you well, God Bless ! Love from Ashwyn...
Read moreRecently, I planned a 2-night, 3-day trip to Ooty. My main priority was to find a resort away from the city crowd where I could enjoy some peace and quiet. That's how I ended up choosing Sunvalley Homestay in Coonoor.
What I liked about this Homestay: Without a doubt, its location is its best feature. It's situated amidst tea estates, and you'll get a beautiful view of tea estates and mist-covered mountains. The rooms were fairly clean, and there was nothing to complain about. On day 2, the housekeeping promptly cleaned the room and kept it tidy while we were out. They also replaced the towels without having to be asked. The front desk staff, restaurant staff, and room service were exceptional. I could see that they were happy to work there, and it showed in the way they took care of the guests. Tasty, yummy, home-style prepared food. We have to pre-order from the menu card and let them know what time you need it. Then their in-house chefs will take care of the rest. The 2.5-hour jeep safari they offer is a must-try. The driver took us through some less-explored interiors of Coonoor and we visited some restricted areas as well (they have the permit to take guests there). We were able to spot some animals and peacocks along the way. The view from Bakasuran Peak was spectacular, and my family enjoyed this adventurous drive !! Oh, did i mention about their free herbal water given in the rooms ? It tasted so good !!
What I didn't like : They charge a premium price for their rooms, but somehow i didn't feel the rooms/hallways were premium enough. The view from the balcony was as advertised in their pictures. However, between our balcony and the tea estates, there was a sunshade, and we could see several cigarette butts scattered on the ground. No one was cleaning them up. Several guests were seen smoking wherever they please which was such a put off, as many families travel there with children. There is no single designated area as far as i have seen. There should be some strict guidelines on this. During the night there was a lot of noise coming from rooms above and near by. Think the walls / floors were too thin and every time when some one walks / close the doors / children running around, the noise can be heard inside the room. I had trouble sleeping at night during my stay. Lastly, as many have mentioned the approach roads are quite narrow. At a time, only one vehicle can go and god forbid if there is another car/jeep coming in opposite direction, good luck !! Luckily i didn't have any trouble reaching there. If you are an experienced driver, this shouldn't be much of an issue.
Having said all that, this is still one of the best resorts in Coonoor where you can stay peacefully and enjoy some tasty food. If the management addresses the negative aspects, we would definitely consider staying here again...

This hotel is placed in a quiet , ambient location with spacious rooms with all amenities and cute sit outs - where we feasted on the lush green tea estates and the chill green misty mountains almost every day , the exotic birds chirping all day and the majestic Bisons that checked into the estates one day .. truly magnificent. While these may be a regular offering in any resort , the x factor at Sunvalley is the way , the team gets about their job. Each and every member of this unit were extremely passionate about their role and seem to enjoy every bit of their day. Each of the staff ensured that they made a lasting impression and a personal connect - which is a rare commodity these days...
Right from the team in the reception [Sarath/Babu/Miacheal/Raghav/Lavanya/Reena/Sujana/Anisha/Gowthami/Noor/Parimala/Nandhu/Naveen/Naushad/Raha/Hari and Shabin] every of them cared for us with a smile. Be it , working out our itinerary and accommodating all our requests , they just wanted us to have the time of our lives.
The food was very homely and was customised as per our request - throughout our stay. The restaurant team ensured that we had nothing but the best available . Having food ; those hot french fries , pakoda and tea with the "view of our lives" right ahead of us will etch on to our memory for a long time. A huge shout out to the restaurant and kitchen team [ Sharath/Biplah/Ashwin/Akib/Pushpendu/Kanchana/Ashwin/Sujana/Thapa/Regan/Suresh/Mary/Kothama and Shalal] for their warm support.
The resort provides a holistic ayurveda centre to rejuvenate ourselves. The staff at the ayurveda centre were very professional and courteous and suggested treatments that really put us back on our feet . Full credit to Roy and Meenu for their warm care !!!
The tour guides Raja & Sujee ensured that we scale Conoor , Ooty , Masinakudi and Theppakadu to our full satisfaction - not to forget the safety factor. They explained to us each and every hair pin bend , the local vegetation and the small stories behind each location , that we will carry for long...Please extend our sincere appreciation to any one who is missed out !!!
We checked in as Guests and left the place with lots of friends made and with everlasting memories that would stay with us for a very long time. If conoor is the vacation spot , Sunvalley would be the location to stay !!
Our next vacation stop would be Sunvalley @ Palakkad !! Kudos to team...
