This place is besides a more famous Guesthouse Called Sun Valley . First of all this is not a Home Stay . Home stay is one where the owners and their family stay in the property and they share the spare rooms for other visitors. This is a proper guest house in the sense that this property has seven rooms and all are let out . We did not see any of the owners family stay there. This place overlooks a Tea Garden ( Not owned by these people)
Approach : This place is approximately 3.8 kms off the main rad . The Approach is terrible and winds though slums before reaching this place . Being a City Dweller, I found the road leading to this place to be very very Narrow. We had an SUV and whenever a vehicle came in the opposite directionswe had to either reverse or move to the edge of the road. Until the last turn into the road leading to the property, there are no signages pointing out directions. If it were not for Google maps we would have never found it .
Rooms The Rooms are clean and tidy and well maintained. The toilets are clean with Western Water Closets and the have anti skid tiles. There is an Electric Geyser in the toilet. No other amenities in the toilet. The Sinks have a mirror on the side and not in the front which makes one wonder why it is there in the first place as it is not very convenient event for a shave. The Room has a fan . I am not sure if they would provide a heater during the colder days as the weather was quite pleasant when we visited in May 2019 We had taken a room with three beds . The Linen and Mattress was clean . The Mattress was comfy . Extra bed if required is provided at Rs. 500/ bed. Only Two Towels are provided per room even if it has three beds.
Food and Hospitality
The staff are very polite and the Quality of the Food is quite good. Sadly the good things end there. We were there for two days and on both the days the Same breakfast was served , Idly sambar and Pongal . The Breakfast is free but the Coffee / Tea served with it isn’t . This has to be paid separately . We found this to be a bit strange.
Secondly if you plan to eat here in the afternoon and in the evening, you have to be very precise as to what you want to eat and how much you want to eat. It is not enough if you tell them to prepare Dinner for 5 people. We must tell them how many bowls of white rice , how many bowls of sambar, How many bowls of Rasam , How many bowls of biriyani. .etc. And you are billed on the item and Quantity . This too puts one into a lot of inconvenience. Though there are seven rooms in the property , the dining area has just two tables with four seats each . you may have to wait for your turn to eat.
There are no places nearby to eat as I said this place is 3.8 Kms off the main Road.
Thirdly , if you are a tourist , it is likely that you will start early to cover the tourist spots. In fact the staff there themselves will tell you that in case you would like to cover the sights in Ooty , Then one must start by 8:00 AM. But this place does not provide Breakfast before 9:00 ( 08:45 is the earliest ) . They do not agree to give you anything earlier.
They will arrange a campfire on the terrace for Rs. 500 Extra
Overall this place is a clean budget Guesthouse, giving you just the basics, and...
Read moreOur experience in green view rest house is really memorable and excellent. It's a perfect homestay to relax and revive oneself from hectic schedules of life... Mr. Kamesh who's the manager there, has taken really good care of us, always on the toes to assist the boarders, very cordial and always smiling.. Clean Rooms and bathrooms, with Excellent valley and mountain view.. That's mesmerizing indeed.. we could spot gangs of bison in the tea estates.. Coming to the food, the homestay serves south Indian foods, though we were not a fan of douth cuisine much, except idli and dosa, but Green view cook Mrs. Thresa has changed the whole dynamics for us.. All the meals she cooked for us was amazing, lip smacking.. She's full of warmth, and so caring as well... I would definitely recommend Greenview house over Sunvalley (they may be good but the warmth of a home might be missing), unlike Green view.. We would be again planning to visit Coonoor in April and again will love to go back to the room I left back there.. Thanks Louis, kamesh and Thresa Akka for giving us such a wonderful memories to cherish..
Only one point which I like to highlight here is providing toiletries (atleast a soap) and electric kettles in the rooms for the guests. Apart from that,...
Read moreExcellent stay with Green View resort homestay, staffs are very friendly. We stayed with Elders and kids, staffs over there helped in getting needy foods for kids and allowed to use their kitchen. They arranged BBQ & Bonfire on extra pay which was tremendous and had a great experience. Breakfast is complementary which is good and order lunch & Dinner separately which is reasonable and good. We took a family room where 4 ppl can stay & common hall where you can sit and chit & chat. The view from balcony is amazing & such a relaxing one. Had a walk through the Tea-estate which is backside to the room & its safe as well. They even helped in arranging local vehicle to roam around the places. This homestay is very budget friendly and make arrangements on our request on extra pay with very helpful and friendly staffs. Really enjoyed each and every moment of...
