Batam View Beach Resort was recently refurbished, so hallways and rooms have an updated look with dark wood hues giving it a bit of modernness. The building has also been given a fresh cost of white paint, giving it a fresh feeling. The gaudy light signboard no longer adorns the main entrance. ||Despite the updates, the property occasionally exudes tiredness: the signage at the entrance is really dated and when we first saw it, we had some apprehension on how the experience would be (think wildness school camping). But our fears were unfounded as the entered the property: it was clean and modern enough for a comfortable stay. ||Upon arrival, we were greeted with a welcome drink. It was a refreshing welcoming from the warm weather outside.||The chairs in the restaurant were tired and the chairs were sunken a little uncomfortable to sit. It would have been if they could be updated for a more comfortable experience. ||Now on to the food, we had lunch, breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. Lunch was pretty standard but nothing to shout about. There was rice, soup, noodle and other sides, fruits and desserts that while palatable, again were nothing to rave about.||During lunch, the only weird encounter I had was with the chocolate jelly; chocolate does not do well in a jelly. ||Breakfast was buffet style. The staff at the entrance will ask for your room number before being let in for breakfast. It was a fuss free experience. The buffet breakfast had typical fare such as rice, noodles, porridge, bread, cereal and an egg station with the usual fare you see at breakfast.||There’s a kelong within the property which serves up pretty decent seafood if you want something nearby and do not want to travel out. ||For dinner, as it was a team event, they set the area near the pool to be an open space buffet for dinner with a stage for the activities. While the experience was good and fun (food again was average), I cannot imagine the noise pollution for the other guests staying on the property. The party went on to the night at about 10pm, and I spotted a couple of guests coming out of their rooms to see what was happening. So, if you are staying here for leisure, something to take note of. ||They have a little pet / animal corner which I wanted to check out but had not time to do so||We had a room on the second floor. The hallway was brightly lit and due to the recent refurbishment, it was a pleasant environment.||Upon entering the room, we were greeted with a clean room with 2 beds. There was ample of space to hang clothes and a luggage space for 2 medium luggage. The closet was open, basically just a pole above the luggage space with about 6 hangers provided.||Housekeeping was good, but not excellent as there a strand of long hair in one of the pillow cases, and there was a little bit of dust on the shelves. Other than that, the room was clean (enough) and the toilet was in good condition with toiletries provided. So if you forgot your toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, or shower gel etc… you are covered. It might not be of high-end quality but it's acceptable. ||The room had a balcony which faced a under maintained tennis court. The floor was cracking up etc.. but other than that it was a pretty scenic view. There are also rooms which overlook the pool (which might be more noisy when there are events happening at the pool area).||Sleep quality wise it was quite good except that the bedsheets were of the lower thread count variety which meant that the texture was a little rough to the touch. In fact, out of all my hotel stays, this is the first time I have encountered such a quality of bedsheets but for the price point it’s not really a deal breaker. Just take note that it will not be a luxurious experience. ||Wifi provided by the resort was relatively strong throughout the property which is a plus to stay connected. ||Sound proofing (from the lounge on ground level) seems to be good. There was loud music and singing happening till the early morning (about 2am) but our room on the 2nd floor was quiet enough; could not hear a single sound. ||There are a variety of sea sports which you can do at the property to enhance your stay. Definitely worth checking the activities out if you want more excitement to your stay.||If you want some spa and pampering, there is a onsite spa but the prices are more than triple of what you can get outside in the malls and spa outlets. ||Do check out my blog for more photos and more about...
Read moreHorrible Stay – Worst Hotel Experience Ever!I had an absolutely terrible experience at this hotel, and I strongly advise others to stay away. From check-in to check-out, everything was a disaster.1. Delayed Check-In Without NoticeWe arrived at the hotel at the designated check-in time, only to be informed that our room was not ready. There was no prior notice or apology—just a blunt statement that we had to wait for another hour. After a long journey, this was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional.2.Rude and Unhelpful StaffWhen I requested a king-size bed, the front desk staff rudely told me there was no availability. Instead of offering alternatives or at least being polite about it, they simply refused to talk, acting as if I was an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. The lack of basic customer service was shocking.3.Discriminatory and Unwelcoming BehaviorI felt extremely uncomfortable due to the staff’s blatant racism. The moment they saw that I was Chinese, their attitude turned cold and dismissive. I was treated with visible hostility, and the difference in their demeanor towards other guests was obvious. No one should have to experience this kind of discrimination, especially in a hospitality setting.4.Horrible Room HygieneThe cleanliness of the room was unacceptable. The toilet was filthy, with visible urine stains from the previous guest—completely disgusting. Even worse, I found blood stains on the bedsheets, which is absolutely unacceptable. It was clear that the housekeeping standards were either nonexistent or completely ignored.5.No Sound Insulation – Constant Noise All NightThe walls in this hotel might as well not exist. I could hear every single noise from the hallway, adjacent rooms, and even the floors above. It was impossible to get a good night’s sleep because of the poor soundproofing.6.Broken Facilities and Poor MaintenanceThe room’s power outlets were broken, making it difficult to charge my devices. Basic maintenance seemed to be completely ignored. For the price they charge, you’d expect functioning room facilities, but clearly, the hotel doesn’t care about guest comfort.7.Awful Breakfast – My Worst in YearsBreakfast was another disaster. The vegetables were not fully cooked, making them practically inedible. To make matters worse, my reserved seat was taken by another guest, and the staff did absolutely nothing about it. The entire dining experience was chaotic and unpleasant.8.Insulting and Humiliating Check-Out ProcessChecking out took an unreasonably long time because the staff acted as if I was stealing from them. They scrutinized everything, wasting my time and making me feel humiliated. I have never experienced such an insulting process at any hotel before. This place is beyond terrible. It is unhygienic, poorly managed, and has staff that are not only unprofessional but outright discriminatory. Avoid at all costs—this is the worst hotel I have stayed at in years!Very far away from major beaches and clubs. Very far away from downtown restaurants....
Read moreWas looking for a laid back resort to rejuvenate for a few days. Had visited this resort over a decade ago and had fond memories so decided to revisit.
Pros: Quiet location away from the hustles around Batam town Lovely sea view surrounding the resort Friendly staff Free daily hi-tea / drinks (not sure if this is only for villa guests though) Breakfast selection was okay with a decent selection. Staff were very professional, live band and magic show continued on in the evening even though there was almost no audience. Buggy to pick up/drop off to and from the villa Has a WhatsApp communication system. Able to send your requests through WhatsApp, though it may take them some time to respond.
Cons: The 2 bedroom villa that we stayed in had their bedrooms and living room entirely separated. The living room was on the lower floor while the bedrooms were on the upper floor. This meant you needed to walk out of the upper floor room just to go to the lower floor room and vice versa, and each room needed a keycard to power up. Power trips happened throughout the day in the villa. Oddly though, after each power trip, the electricity will power back up on its own. The sheltered outdoor area (with deck chairs) of the living room on the lower floor wasn't maintained well. When it rained, water will seep from the upper floor balcony down to the sheltered area. Amenities are poorly maintained. Had wanted to play badminton, but the net was broken. The rackets also were not strung properly, and shuttlecocks were worn. Mosquitoes were breeding in uncovered containers at the outdoor courts. Staff who was informed merely shifted the container away from us. In his defence, I don't think he actually understood what our concerns were. But the hotel management will probably need to better educate their staff. Some water activities listed were not available. We had wanted to do rafting and but staff couldn't understand what it was even though it was on the suggested activities list and we were subsequently told it wasn't available. Rooms are old and not soundproof at all. One of the mornings, there was some event ongoing at the resort and we could literally hear everything that the emcee was saying from wherever he was. There was no notification from the hotel about the event either.
Summed up, I think the resort has great potential but alot more effort would probably be needed to maintain its facilities in...
