My 3D2N stay at Montigo was possibly the worst 5-star resort experience I ever encountered.

Let me preface this — the stay was generally acceptable with some plus points, however certain negative points ruined the overall experience.

Let’s start with the pros first:

Having a private pool is the big selling point to us

They provide a free buggy service to shuttle you in the resort

Checkout was extremely fast

Staff are generally nice and friendly except certain encounters which left a very sour taste in our mouth (explained below)

Here’s the cons that ruined the experience:

Exploitative and unreasonable extra charges; during check-in, the manager said that our booked room (1 king bed) only allowed 2 pax max, while we had 3 of us.

Other resorts i’ve visited didn’t have much of an issue with this, but montigo had. But fine, hotel policy right? Here’s where it got upright UNREASONABLE:

Logically, we would just have to topup cash and upgrade to a bigger room right? Nope — the manager wanted to make us pay an extra 2 million rupiah for a room upgrade to a unit with 1 king and 2 single beds PLUS an extra 1 million rupiah as a surcharge for having the 3rd person.

I was extremely confused at why we need to fork out an additional 1M rupiah surcharge for our 3rd pax when we’re already going to pay more for a room with more than enough beds to fit FOUR people. To me, this additional pax surcharge was completely unreasonable and upright exploitative, which started our trip on a very sour note from being bullied by the manager.

After we made the payment for the surcharges, we still had to wait for close to 45mins for them to prepare the room. We were shivering in the lobby from the blasting aircon. This was 9pm at night.

Room Amenities was lacking. Especially after topping up 50% from our original booking price, we had high expectations for the room. Turns out, they didn’t even provide something as basic as BEDROOM SLIPPERS.

We texted their concierge for 6 pairs bedroom slippers (3 pax, 1 pair for each floor of our 2-storey villa), only for the concierge to tell us there is a cap of 1 pair per pax… seriously…? I didn’t expect a 5-star resort to be so stingy over cheap slippers.

Even funnier, they proceeded to deliver us 3 pairs of BEACH FLIP FLOPS. We had to send a screenshot of what’s a bedroom slipper, only for them to tell us they don’t provide them. Even most 4-star hotels provide something as basic as this.

Fixtures in the villa was in poor condition. Even though we cranked the aircon to 16 degrees, it felt like 27 degrees. To top it off, the aircon was making weird creaking noises every few seconds, loud enough to keep me awake at night.

Our sofas in the living room had weird white stains on them. Not sure what those are but I don’t wanna know.

The door to our rooftop also couldn’t be closed properly, possibly from all the rust. But this was still a safety hazard as someone could break in from there

Sliding door to our pool was also hard to open

Housekeeping didn’t replenish our bath robes. At that point we didn’t even bother asking the concierge to avoid facing the risk of being quoted another surcharge

Although the seaview from the room was good, the beach was absolutely terrible and looked abandoned. We saw hundreds of guests at breakfast, but not a single person on montigo’s beach. You can connect the dots yourself

CONCLUSION:

Montigo is batam’s most expensive resort (2-4x the price of other beach resorts), but we had our high hopes disappointingly reduced to the ground.

Our encounters with montigo’s unreasonable surcharges and stinginess over basic & cheap amenities was truly shocking and disappointing for supposedly batam’s best resort.

Needless to say, we will not be returning, nor will we recommend this place to ANY of our friends.

Behind the wall of montigo’s 5-star beaming reviews are the poor 1-star reviews of other unhappy guests for a wide variety of issues. Not saying you shouldn’t choose montigo, but read those...

I stayed at Montigo Resort Nongsa in early August, with the intention to relax and unwind after a busy year. Overall, I enjoyed my stay tremendously and came back refreshed. |I had booked a standard room, and was lucky enough to be upgraded to a Spa Villa, thanks to the kindness of the staff. The villa is spacious and comfortable, built over 3 storeys: living room and pool at the bottom, bedrooms on the second floor, and terrace on the roof. The amount of space and amenities provided would make it perfect for a family. I particularly appreciated the quality of the beds and pillows, which were very soft and comfortable, and allowed me to get great quality sleep. I noticed some parts of the villa seemed to be getting a bit old and worn out, but this didn’t bother me.|Halfway through my stay, there was an incident, where a rainstorm during the night damaged parts of the villa I was staying in. I was immediately moved to another villa, and noticed that this one was in better condition, with more amenities and nicer decorations. Though I had not been bothered in my previous villa, it struck me that some rooms within the same price bracket vary in quality. |The food at the resort was very good. Multiple restaurants offered a range of styles to enjoy, and I found enough variety to keep me occupied during my stay. Pantai was my favourite restaurant at the resort. The atmosphere, with its open air wooden lounge with a view over the bay and the Singapore towers, is extremely comfortable and cozy. The music selection is great and makes the place feel calm and pleasant. The food is especially great, with deep and rich flavours, and the portions are very generous.|It is worth noting that, while the food is reasonably priced, the inclusion of tax and service charge make the prices soar on the final bill. |I had come to relax and found ample opportunity to. The Beach Bar area was too noisy for me, so I spent the majority of my stay on the beautiful beach, with its view of the Singapore towers. The beach is very quiet as it is close to the spa, and I noticed very few people came, so I was alone most of the time. This also meant that there were no staff around the beach, and so some amenities were missing which could have made the beach more comfortable (mattresses for the sunbeds etc). I still very much enjoyed it. The water is not very clean, owing to the proximity to Singapore, and there are rocks in the water. Signs put up mentioned the risk of stone fish in the rocks and discouraged swimming, but I found a spot with fewer rocks and had no issue. |The spa was also a highlight of my stay. I found the massages to be very high quality, with a wide range of services offered, allowing me to try out different styles. It is right next to the beach, so you can hear the waves during your massage. It was overall extremely pleasant. |Finally, the staff provided a very high quality service. Every request was taken care of quickly and efficiently, and I found the staff to be extremely kind and helpful no matter the situation. It was a pleasure to meet and speak to the staff, which made my trip even nicer. |At the spa, Ruly, Usna, and Diah, gave me extremely pleasant massages, and Jasmine at reception was lovely to interact with. |At Pantai, Ely was particularly kind in taking care of my special requests, and Yuyun, the manager, was kind enough to give me dessert on the house. At Tiigo, I really enjoyed talking with Ventina. |I am of course missing many others whose names I did not catch. My point is simply that the quality of the service made my stay even better. |Overall, Montigo’s proximity to Singapore, as well as its reasonable price, makes it a very convenient get-away to relax. I...

Montigo Nongsa Resort is a must go for a relaxing retreat in Batam to rest and recharge from the daily rush of City life. Just by simply being there, immersed in the beauty of white washed villas by the sea, you will feel like you're in Greece. Soaking in the scenic view all around you everywhere you go and vibes of a slower pace of life, all the stress slips away. In the resort, commuting is done using a buggy, or you can have a delightful walk discovering paths and scenic places not covered by the buggy. The villa is my beautiful cozy home for the retreat with its own Infinity pool giving me all time access to the magnificent sea view, sunset and cloudy skies overhead. I can lounge on the poolside bench for a sunbath watching the ferries and sea activities or admire the broad expanse of the dark cloudy skies overhead with planes flying above at night truly quietens one's spirit down in an amazing life by the sea.Adding sparks and highlights to the already perfect life here in Montigo Resort is the abundance of daily breakfast at Tadd's Restaurant. The staff here (including Sara and another gentleman staff whom I didn't ask for the name) are amazingly friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant breakfast experience for you.If you have booked recreation activities in advance, you would be pleasantly delighted that staff from the Recreation Club would be there at Tadd's before you come for breakfast to meet you and assure they will bring you to the Recreation activity after breakfast! Wow! What a seamless experience to make you feel so welcome and well taken care of! Thanks to Chyntia, Coco, Yoga, Wahid and Bruhan from the Recreation Club. Chyntia has thoughtfully planned the sequence of the activities when I booked several activities over a few days without fixed dates and time to allow easier booking depending on tidal conditions and other guests' bookings. You can try your hands at the Airsoft Gun. Coco from Recreation Club will guide you on the shooting techniques. As a first timer with Airsoft guns, I'm certainly pleased to have hit 2 targets using 30 pellets. Next is the kayaking. Yoga from Recreation Club will brief you on using the paddle and take photos and videos for you from the shore. Just paddle out to the peaceful sea and take in the entire landscape of Montigo Resort from the kayak. I'm also amazed at the opportunity to see a tiny flat crab clutching onto a floating cardboard raising one leg at me at sea! Another exciting adventure is the ATV! Wahid from the Recreation Club will help you get familiar to the ATV in no time and guide you on a tour to the dirt track and the nearby farm in the ATV if you choose the one hour session! Along the way, he will help take photos and videos to capture your memorable ATV journey. Lastly, you can opt for a 2 hour bike tour to 2 kampungs! Guided by Bruhan from Recreation Club, you will see the captivating rustic local life scenes, the nature and beach along the way. You will also see the mangrove village where paintball activity takes place. Bruhan will also take photos and videos for you when we pause for breaks. Thankfully, Bruhan brought along a bottle of mineral water for me for regular hydration during the tour! It totally skipped my mind to consider bringing water along! To ease the muscle soreness, end the day with a blissful soak in the Infinity pool or warm bathtub with an essential oil bath bomb. Breathe in the aromatic scent and relax. So much wonderful memories and delightful experiences at Montigo Nongsa Resort leaves me looking...

This is our second visit. First visit is many years ago before covid when we stayed in Seaside Villa. This visit I bring my mum along, we stayed in Hillside Villa room 73 for 3D2N just over the past weekend. Room facilities: Pool is super huge and can contain 4-6 person with no issues. Scenery is great. If you like unobstructed go for seaview, otherwise hillside villa scenery is also great. Villa price is for 4 person so we top up for 1 more person and they add a day-bed in the 2 bedroom villa. If you want to top up, do email after you book the 2 bedroom villa and top up excess amount via email OR physically. The villa is big enough for 5-6 person for the 2 bedroom villa. Cleanliness is 5 star. Staff cleaned the room daily and clear rubbish, clean toilets, change towels. I am amazed by the cleanliness because the villa is huge and not easy to clean. NO flies at food, and I think this is tough to upkeep in a beach resort so kudos to the staff. Resort location: super convenient to SG, only 45mins ferry. and ferry is not as busy as bintan so got more space, and ferry is comfy with upgraded ferry. I am glad that batam fast has upgraded their vessel since our first visit. Very suitable for elderly or kids, because right after ferry, the montigo staff is waiting (together with other hotel/resort) and can take their bus, short ride to resort around 10mins. Activities: My teens are laid back type so we didn't try much, although they have many many activities such as kayaking, banana boat, mangrove tour, archery, air-soft, KTV, ATV, spa. We only did the archery and air-soft. Air-soft is suitable for kids and elderly, and my mum like it. Special thanks to Fandi and Septo for their excellent service and making the games fun with jokes, and they also provide clean explanation on how to play. It really cheer up our days. Although we paid quite a lot because we played several rounds, we don't mind because the service make up for it and its worthwhile. Food: Taste of food is so-so, but service is excellent. Retna remembers our room number and good service on food. We tried the BBQ buffet on sat but is disappointed with the food quality, and the lighting at the Bar can be improve because we cannot see the food well. Breakfast soup is salty, sunny-side up is cold. But variety is good. It will be better if they can specialise in certain area for food and improve breakfast taste. I deduct one star for the food quality, otherwise this will be a 5 star review. Mosquitoes: A lot of mosquitoes at the beach area, in room and at private pool area. Maybe can do fogging, though I guess it will be difficult as nearby is rural area. Service overall: The buggy drivers, the games staff, breakfast servers etc most of them remember our room number, and they welcome us with a smile, when we arrived with welcome drink, when we go for breakfast, when we ride the buggy, when they clean our room, when we met them in the resort. The smiles are everywhere and genuine smiles. When we left the resort, they also wave to us. Such personalised service. The service is really top-notch. I hope that more visitors will go Montigo as it be a shame to let it be forgotten. Stay at least 2-3D for first visit, as 1 night is not enough. We went to many nearby similar beach resorts before, but personalised service really makes the stay special and memorable.

We recently stayed at Montigo for two nights in a two-bedroom seafront villa. Initially drawn in by its online allure, the reality on arrival was a bit less glamorous. The resort shows visible wear and tear, which detracted from its initial appeal as a grand, 5-star destination. The standout feature at Montigo was definitely their service. Nearly everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and helpful. Communication via WhatsApp was mostly prompt, although there was one instance where replies seemed a bit curt. They were accommodating with our requests and even had a housekeeping manager check in with us before we left, though ideally, this should have been done upon check-in. The villa itself was spacious and offered breathtaking views of the sea and Singapore skyline. The private dipping pool was a hit, especially for our kids. However, the interior felt somewhat bare, resembling more of a chalet than a luxurious retreat. It was ironic how the beautiful resort lobby area set such high expectations for our villa only for it to fall short once we stepped inside. Basic amenities like shower gel and towels were provided, but extras like pool towels and slippers had to be requested, citing sustainability, as communicated prior to arrival. Maintenance also seemed lacking; we noticed dislodged tiles and aging furniture. Regarding in-villa dining, we were disappointed with the $200 worth of food we ordered, only to find it served in disposable paper and plastic packaging—far from the sustainability we expected from a 5-star establishment. The resort amenities, including the pools and restaurants, left something to be desired. The pools looked murky, and several restaurants were unexpectedly closed during our stay, impacting our dining options. When open, the prices were excessively high for the quality offered. Breakfast was another letdown. We anticipated a more lavish spread from a 5-star establishment, but were disappointed by the limited variety. The buffet setup was odd; food was placed directly on plates within the trays, as if they were avoiding washing the buffet trays themselves. The actual spread was far less generous than what we had seen in online reviews. It felt like they had scaled back for weekday guests like us. Taste-wise, nothing stood out—most dishes were either mediocre or unappetizing. Despite multiple requests, they couldn't seem to get the half-boiled eggs right. The saving grace was the seafront views, although even basic beverages like kopi or teh tarik came with an additional charge, which felt unjustified given the premium pricing of the stay. In summary, while Montigo charges a premium, the value for money is questionable. The resort seems hesitant to provide basic amenities and services that match its self-proclaimed 5-star status. For future visits, I'd opt to dine and explore activities outside the resort, where prices are more reasonable and quality more assured. Management appears to prioritize Singaporean clientele with inflated prices, which, coupled with subpar amenities and dubious sustainability practices, falls short of genuine luxury and guest satisfaction.

Terrible experience at Montigo Resorts Batam. I will mention the pointers in the most chronological order I can recall. First was the room not being ready at the stipulated time. Causing us to wait almost 2 hours for the room. When asked if the room was ready, the counter took more than 5 minutes to come back with an answer. The answer, by the way, was issuing us a card to our villa. When we reached said villa, room service was still inside cleaning, causing us to wait outside for another 10 minutes. 2 other staff came by to ask the staff inside if he was ready, the second one told us to go inside WHILE the staff was inside at the same time. Secondly, compound is old and very visible signs of wear & tear, as well as poor upkeep. Pool does not seem to have a renewing system nor a very strong chlorine smell, but what do I know. There is also a lot of repair and construction going on. If I wanted to experience more construction I would have stayed in SG. Breakfast area has no a/c either, so that's unfortunate. Walls are relatively thin between rooms and villas, so you can hear what's going on across multiple places, if that matters to you. Thirdly, and the most unacceptable portion was - during our stay, the A/C in the master room started dripping onto our bed. We tried to ignore it as it went away and we were tired, but eventually it started POURING. We asked the staff to check it out when we to the city center, they fixed it and changed the sheets, unsure if they changed the mattress. This happened on the first night of our stay, subsequently it was alright. Fourth, a staff member came to our door at 4 am on the second night, asking us if we needed incense. I was confused because no one asked for that and everyone was asleep. (I woke up to get the door) He showed me the message of the instructions he received, asking him to come to our villa number. I told him that it was impossible, because we weren't experiencing any oil smell per the message. However it was the right number, but no one could have messaged as everyone has been asleep for quite some time. He apologised and left. Lastly, we waited for our buggy for almost 2 hours during our check out. We messaged and called multiple times for pick up service, but it was just impossible to get one. I believe this was because of the crowd checking out during this period. Our friends had to wait a really long time to check out as the front desk was absolutely slammed, due to the lack of staggering system. I guess it was a blessing for us to have been stuck in our villa waiting for the pick up? 😂 Did not try the restaurants so no comments. Breakfast is fine, spread is acceptable, except for the lack of A/C. Staff are generally nice and helpful. Location is 50/50, depending on what you want to do. If you want it removed from civilisation and have it near to a port and golfing? Great. If you want to travel to the city center? You're hard stuck in having to experience almost 2 hours in commuting back and forth. The views is the most redeeming part of the location, though you can still see SG from there, so ymmv.

You're hard stuck in having to experience almost 2 hours in commuting back and forth. The views is the most redeeming part of the location, though you can still see SG from there, so ymmv.
