OYO 687 Residence Hotel Syariah — Hotel in City of Medan

The hotel is just next to Masjid Raya and shopping mall. Location wise, I would give the hotel and excellent point.||||But room and amenities, it's poor. I've stayed in a lot of budget hotel but this the worst hotel I've ever stayed. Air con units is not cold, rooms is smelly, toilets is sucks. I even wake up with a back ache as the bed is not comfortable. Whilst recommended in Lonely Planet, and chosen over poor reviews (on Trip Advisor) of another of LP’s hotels, my experience of a budget room of 80k IDR was very poor. Basically the top floor rooms are hot, the ceiling fan speed was either very low or ‘take-off high’, broken toilet with a shower (if you could call the water outlet above the toilet a shower)||Noisy music neighbours, so earplugs a must.||This place is basically a flea pit....so definitely pay more for a better room or stay...

We booked this hotel since we were just spending a few hours to rest our eyes as we reached Medan town at 10pm. It's labelled as 'Backpackers' hotel and it is befitting its offering. The mattress was lumpy and the room was too small for a medium-big size person. The Aircond was noisy and toilet smells. But you won't get Shangri-la for US$10 per nite.
