We stayed at The Kayana Beach for 5 nights at one of the hill side villas, and tonight will mark our last night. Our experience has been lovely and we would definitely come back here, but I would like to offer recommendations to improve of some of the services we received too.
I would like to say that one of the best parts of our stay is the hotel staff and how friendly, and helpful everyone is. Language could be a barrier at times.
Our stay at the hotel was not premeditated- we had reservation at a different resort in the area, which we had made a while ago; to our surprise that reservation was cancelled around midnight before our check in day, so we had to make new arrangements. We booked the Kayana Beach at 3 am in the morning and made full payment- we wanted to cancel our reservation in the morning however Kayana Beach did not agree to wave the cancellation fee unfortunately. It was only matter of few hours between our reservation and the cancellation request- but putting that behind us, although they could have been more understanding and helpful, we checked in according to our reservation.
The hotel is a lovely selection of Villas all have their own private pools. There are buggies within the hotel grounds that can assist you with moving around. Hotel is quite far away from everything. The property has one restaurant (The Blues) which is on the hillside and it has the most beautiful view of the sunset. They also have a SPA which we have not tried. The hotel also has a small space for exercise with a treadmill and a bike with lovely views. It would be helpful if some other basic equipments can be added too.
The reception is very grand and staff are very welcoming, however I believe they could provide more information about the hotel, their services on arrival. I had mixed feeling when we checked in.
Restaurant: our reservation included breakfast which is amazing. It is A La Carte menu and you will be offered freshly made fruit juice and pastries as part of each order too. The menu is available online and includes an all day dining, snacks and desserts, breakfast and drinks. We tried dinner there which was unfortunately hit and miss for us. We tried AYAM TALIWANG and BEEF RENDANG on our first night, unfortunately both were very hard to chew on and we left them. we tried explaining to our waiter, however we would like to think that language came as a barrier and were not offered any replacement. We tried burgers, some of the started dishes and their desserts which were lovely. I would personally do not recommend their pizza as it came as if it was put in the over from a package and I suffered very bad tummy afterwards.the restaurant seem to be very busy at nights and orders often takes time to prepare. On a very positive note, We asked for takeaway boxes for our breakfast one morning as we were going on a tour early morning and they very kindly accommodate it for us and delivered it to our room before our departure.
Beach is one of my favourite parts of the hotel. It is very calm, quiet so you can truly enjoy a relaxing time there. There is a telephone on the beach which you can ask for towels or ordering drinks, we tried asking for towels twice and unfortunately they never arrived. It would be very helpful if the hotel could consider a system to offer towels in the beach too.
Room cleaning: it is offered on request only. It took us two days to realise it but when you ask (you just need to dial the reception and ask for it, they will come and clean the room immediately. The staff are truest amazing. It would be helpful to note this to the guest on arrival.
In terms of cleanness of the hotel - the mosquito net in our villa was quite unclean (a cockroach was dead amongst the net and it was apparent it was there for sometime), we asked for it to be change but I believe it was only spot cleaned. I used The toilets in the restaurant area once and unfortunately they were in quite a bad estate. I never returned there.
I wish all the staff all the best for...
Read moreOur villa was the epitome of comfort and relaxation. The private pool was a personal haven, and the luxurious bathtub in the room quickly became one of our favourite indulgences. One of the thoughtful touches we appreciated was that the housekeeping team would call us each day to ask when would be the best time to clean the room, understanding that many guests, like us, enjoy lounging around their villa during the day. It’s a small gesture that speaks volumes about the respect they have for your space and comfort.||We were truly blown away by the flexibility the hotel offered. There’s no set breakfast time – we could enjoy it as late as 12 noon, which was perfect for our slow, relaxed mornings. We even had the option to dine in our room and regularly ordered food, cocktails, and beers straight to our villa – the ultimate lazy luxury.||The rooftop restaurant deserves its own spotlight. Yes, there’s a 100-step walk up, which is absolutely manageable for younger couples, and the view is breathtaking – an uninterrupted panorama of the ocean and the Gili Islands. But for those who’d rather skip the climb, the hotel offers a beautiful leather-interiored buggy service, with staff more than happy to take you to and from the restaurant via a scenic ramp, right to your villa door – any time you like.||The people here are what truly make this place shine. Wulan, Nana, Sahrir, Defri, Aldi, and every single cleaner (even though we didn’t catch all their names) greeted us warmly every day, asking how we were and wishing us a lovely day – always with genuine smiles. The hospitality here far exceeded what we experienced in Bali. Everyone was so friendly, kind, and curious about our Scottish culture, which made for such lovely exchanges and a real sense of connection.||One incredibly touching moment was when Nana noticed on my partner’s passport that it was his birthday (we hadn’t been able to celebrate properly earlier), and she arranged a beautiful surprise bed decoration for us. It was such a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture, and we’ll never forget it.||The food was five-star restaurant quality. Massive kudos to the chef, who not only made delicious dishes every night but was also super accommodating with our special requests – especially since my partner is a slightly fussier eater. They went above and beyond every time.||The bed was huge, super long, and unbelievably comfortable – my partner is over 6 feet tall and slept better than he has in ages. The amenities were also impressive: high-end touches like shaving cream, combs, nail files, shower caps, cotton buds, and so much more – they really thought of everything.||Another amazing perk was the complimentary two-course meal and daily breakfast, which meant that one day we didn’t spend a single thing except for two cokes – allowing us to splurge more on excursions, like our private boat trip to snorkel and swim with sea turtles around the Gili Islands.||Cleanliness was absolutely 10/10. Our villa was always pristine. Yes, I did see a huntsman spider (my worst fear on Earth!), but to be honest, it didn’t change how I felt about the place – it’s part of the nature here, and the experience was still perfect.||Lastly, to address something we saw mentioned in other reviews – the prayer calls from the nearby mosque. Our villa was the closest to both the reception and the mosque, and yes, we could hear them. But instead of it being disruptive, it was actually calming – a soft, melodic background that added to the cultural beauty of the place. We’re not religious at all, but we genuinely appreciated the moment, even if it briefly woke us, we drifted back to sleep with no trouble.||We’ll be recommending this place to everyone we know. Lombok has truly surprised and enchanted us, and this hotel made it all the more unforgettable. We’re already dreaming of...
Read moreI'm writing this review on the last day of my stay in The Kayana and I am already missing all of these people. The villas are very clean, the food is always hot, they have a wide range of local food but also the continental ones. Poached eggs were my favorites for breakfast as well as seared salmon for dinner. The eggs were perfectly prepared - not each chef could do it so well even in Europe. The nearby beach is connected with local village - but those people are also very nice and kind even tough they know English a little. You can always find a way to communicate. You can see Lombok from inside thanks to them. And now I would like to thank especially to Muh Yanuar Mukhtur who made our stay an unforgettable experience from the very beginning. He took us from the airport and made us feel safe and comfortable, talking all the way about many interesting things, current situation - he was like an old friend hasn't seen for a long time. He checked our mood and plans daily - asking how he could help. A fancy tied bandana on his head looks exotic and unusual and it could be a great way to express the character and individuality of people who work and live there. Astin - the lady working in the reception desk - always helpful and nice, gives you the advice of travelling and must see tourist point, arranges the trips and solve many, many problems. Dewi - the waitress in the restaurant - always interested in your day and well-being, willing to help with the dish selections, explains all the local ingredients used in the meals, aware of allergens, skillfully selects substitutes. Nurs - the waiter always greets you with some joke, he has a great sense of humor. A great type of waiter, committed but non-imposing. Awan, Defri, Yayat and many many more.... I don't remember all of their names but they all are great people and they do great job. You can feel as a part of their family. Thanks to this team you can feel like home. Thanks to them The Kayana has the perfect atmosphere. Their features are priceless and all the resorts should look for people like them. Kayana you have THEM - so be aware of this and please take good care of them because they are the best thing you have. Remember it's not the area and facilities that create the perfect stay ( it's secondary) - It's all about the people! I love them all! When reading all of these negative opinions or minuses I don't know what is going on. The towels on the beach could be taken just right from the lobby, which is in front of the beach, the transfer to local Gili Islands was always perfect, the local divers help a lot and let u feel as comfortable in the water as you can. There were no problems at all. Local mosque is a part of their culture and you need to get used it. I regard it as a part of morning relaxation. Kayana is a place with its own spirit. Perfect place to relax. Everything was solved with good conversation. And it's through conversation that you create a memorable relationship between you and them.
To sum up I would definitely recommend The Kayana beach resort as it is a secluded holistic retreat with great and easy access to nearby Gili islands and many other...
